I am SO annoyed right now. It just seems like one problem after the other. So I was getting EI in 2004 because where I am working it was really slow that summer so they laid us off and we had a week of work here and there. Well I got a notice in the mail saying I had claimed in a certain 2 week period of October 2004 that I had earned 55 dollars and my employer claimed I had earned 70 bucks more than that. What had happened is I had only worked 4 hours during the two week period so I claimed my hours worked, but I also received a cheque from work that week for previous earnings(a bonus cheque). So now Ei says I have to pay a 40 dollar fine and have to pay back the difference between what they paid me, and that my record is tarnished for 5 years and that I will have to work more hours than the normal person to get EI again. I am SO mad becuaes I did not make any false claims. This was a cheque for hours PREVIOUSLY worked! this had nothing to do with the week in question. So I sent them a letter about 2 weeks ago and have not heard back from them. I am all stressed out. They said I may have to go to court and heck yeah I will go! I know I am in the right here, i always reported everything as I should have. I reported the money i received. its like if you go on Ei and then you finally recieve a cheque owed to you from months ago that you had alreayd reported to them! I never hated EI before but I sure do now.

I'm sorry you're having all those problems with EI. I think they are such a pain in the ##### I think you should try phoning the EI office and see if they have made any progress on your claim.
