If you currently do not qualify for Child Tax Benefit, you will have to apply for the $1200 / year. If you do get Child Tax, it will be automatically sent to you. I thought Id share this with some of you.

Thanks!

I have already applied for all my kids even though we don't get the CTB. In Alberta, earlier this year, every person residing here in 2005 got $400, so I applied last year so that I would get the $1600 for my kids.

thats what they said on a local parenting message board.

It is taxed, so your income increases by $600 this year and next year bu $1200 (for one child). If this affects your child tax, I am not sure, all depends where you sit now for income.

so for some people it may bring them up a tax bracket and affect it? but if you are low enough it wont bring you up?

Yea, from my understanding it will only raise you a tax bracket if an extra income of $1200/yr (this would be for 2007 and one child because in 2006 it is only $600) will bump you up.

Heather, the two things you heard are right. CTB will be going down a bit, a percentage of it. I think its a $20'ish benefit in there somewhere, so you will be getting $20 less than what you just got this month. Then the new $100 for marissa, is taxed according to your tax bracket come tax time.

I know this will be bumping us into the higher tax bracket now, just by $1000. So that means come tax time, were going to basically lose this childcare money.

Actually if you are living together and have a child you are automatically common law even if it has been less than 6months.

I'd be calling them to find out why you haven't received anything yet. It should have only taken 6-8 weeks.
