I am so confused about what I have to do to have benefits when i go on Maternity leave. I don't know if I even understand what I am appling for or anything. I went on the governement's site ond omg I almost wanted to cry trying to sort out what I am supposed to and when i can take it and if I even qualify. I definatly have a headache. Is there anyone out there that has been through the process successfully? I think I understand that there are actually tw seprate types of leave - the pregnancy leave and then the parental leave and each are with there own benefits or are the benefits the same? Can I apply before I am actually finished work or do I have to wait and be without pay for a peripod of time while it kicks in? I am so confused. Any help would be very useful....ps I am in Ontario.

What I did was apply online. Then you need to goto your nearest government office and give them your work seperation papers. If you have quit they your work will mail them to you and if you are still currently workring there just ask them for them so the governement can verify you worked 600 hours in the last 12 months. Aslong as you have worked 600 insurable hours in the last 12 months you qualify. It doesnt matter if you were fired, quit, or still working there. You can apply now to get it out of the way. You can start getting your money i think at 34 weeks along or you can wait till your babies due date. I know its confusing. If you are to confused just go into the government office and they will help you through it.

You have to be done! I am going through this and waiting my first check! it should be here the first week of august. They ask for 30 days until you get your pay! thats 30 days from the time they RECEIVE your application. THEN... they dont includ the first two weeks from when you applied... cause most people get one more paycheck after they are done work including vacation pay!

i hope this helps. but you can call and ask
