we dont have big parties, so the only people who come are my IL's and BIL. My in laws do go crazy at any gift giving occasion and buy the kids sooo much stuff! MIL does usually stick to the list i give them more or less so its stuff the kids want/need which is good.

I always go through the toys before the kids bdays and Xmas and i get rid of anything that is broken or that they dont play with anymore, it helps make room for the new toys they get

Only my first's first birthday party. It was nuts! I never did a party that big again. There wasn't room in my house for everyone and her birthday is in January so it's not like we could be outside.

I appreciate the generosity, but who buys a 1 year old a bike with training wheels? Or a table and chairs set? DH's family is crazy. Crazy I say! He was super spoiled...for kids birthdays, I've done clothes for young ones, movie passes for older ones, and in between (like 2-4) usually something educational. We got a bunch of 'stuff'. His playroom is FULL now.

LOL! Sounds like my DH's parents. Each one of my kids got a large ride on toy for their first birthday. Big wheel bikes, tricycles, that sort of thing.

They don't but they're so much fun to buy for! Just wait until your second and they all do the same thing, but you already have one of everything! Then you'll have twice as much. It's no wonder we had to buy a larger house. My garage is full, and I mean full right to the door of stuff. Motorized cars, bikes, wagons, trikes, big wheels, sleds, and yes I'm purposely adding plural to all of that because we have at least 2 of everything!

I'm going to need a bigger playroom!

And we need a shed in the backyard...the garage is where DH hangs out LOL.

Yard sales! Have yearly yard sales. Before each holiday pack up everything he no longer plays with and set it aside for the yard sale in the summer. Don't bother keeping it for your next unless it's something really special because people will get you more. That's the only way to survive without a house packed to the rafters.

Friends I'm ok with, its all the adults and extra family. Not that I don't want to see family but they go overboard!
