DH has been offered a really good job with tons of room for growth and a good future for his career in Toronto, well, the site is in Mississauga. They have offered him housing (dont know exact details on how that works yet) moving expenses and a pay raise. The company is growing and with him being the head tech in the country and them wanting him to oversee all over Ontario as they grow, and him being the most knowledgeable, including knowing more than those that teach techs how to run this system (which he proved this week at a training session impressing the boss's) I think it would be stupid for him to turn it down. We're by Ottawa now. The big thing is neither of us want to live in Toronto or any part of any city in the "mega city" and neither of us want to live in Durham again. We'd prefer a small town thats what he thinks would be an acceptable distance away, up to an hour. I know Ontario pretty decent, but not *that* well. Ive been to TO and have family in Scarborough and have been end to end on the 401, but i dont know it well enough to think of any smallish towns in that area. Any suggestions? He's going to get more details this week before we make a decision.

Congratulations on the new job!!

So his new job is in Mississauga? Have you considered Guelph? I know it's not a small town, but it's a smaller nicer place to live than Toronto. Or there's Georgetown, my neighbour moved there, nice agricultural town, a little closer than Guelph. That's the best I can do for suggestions. Good luck with the move!

I don't know what the poster's definition of "small town" is, but I was also going to suggest Guelph. I lived there for 5 years as a student and I really loved it. My company has an office there and I would move there in a heartbeat if offered the right job opportunity. Great place to have a family and raise kids. Close enough to the GTA but far enough away that you don't feel like you are in the suburbs. It really has that "small town" feel to it.

Even smaller towns in that area are Fergus and Elora, but then you are getting further away from Mississauga.

Even Milton isn't too bad, depending where in it you are, and super close. I will still suggest Kitchener/Waterloo....its only about a 45 min drive if you leave before the worst of rush hour. But I'm a little biased It technically isn't small but it has the small-town feel to it, depending on which neighbourhood you're in. My friends that grew up in Guelph are very loyal to it too.

Any of the small communities along highway 6 are great too (Puslinch, Freeling, etc,), and I'm not quite sure of the time from Mississauga, but along the QEW are tons of smaller communities (Stoney Creek, Grimsby).

TONS of places so you don't have to be in Mississauga (I don't blame you not wanting to be in a big metropolis!), I would recommend getting an experienced real estate agent to help you figure it out. You may want to consider renting to just check out if the area is the right one for you, unless that messes up which moving expenses and such that they'll cover.

Sounds like an amazing opportunity!

I wish this company would make up their minds already!! In the spring they are putting up a new site in Cornwall and since it's only an hour from here, we're staying put. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep that in mind if things change, AGAIN lol.
