So Cam has croup. Poor little guy is barking like a seal.

We gave him a warm bath before bed, had the humidifier going all night and during naps, and I did give him some advil for pain last night.

I also read about cold air treatments (outside for 15-20 min at a time), which we'll do after dinner but before his bath tonight. It sucks that its so cold out that even the 15 min might be pushing it.

I read that decongestants and cough syrup won't help and could actually make it worse but we don't have either of those in the house anyways. He has a relatively mild case, he's fine for the most part during the day and is still acting mostly normal, if a bit clingy and whiney.

Any other tips or tricks you may have had luck with or heard about?

i think i heard that you can run a super hot shower and just sit with him in the bathroom, the steam helps i guess... i dont know from experience though, none of mine have had croup before. I hope he feels better soon

Forget the steam and the humidifier, get him someplace cold, crack his bedroom window and let the cold crisp air in.

The heat and humidity is great for congestion due to a cold, but it does nothing for the croup and can make the cough worse.

At least that's been my experience.

We did that after his bath tonight

I'm amazed you have escaped it so far! But we haven't had any other issues here so I guess it was time for him to catch something.

Its so cold though! Are you sure we should crack the window? Or do it for an hour maybe?

Yeah, it's awfully cold, maybe just for a bit while he's trying to fall asleep?

I've always just cracked the window, I'm talking just cracked not wide open. My one friend would go sit in the car with her baby until he fell asleep then she'd bring him back inside, not running it just gave the coldness while being out of the wind.

Good luck!
