My landlord came by to pick up the rent today. She gave me an envelope with a notice stating that her son wants my apartment. I am crushed. I have lived here for over a year and half and for a landlord to be able to do this just seems so unfair. I know it's legal but geez. I love this place and will never find another like it for the price I'm paying. I looked at some ads today...let's just say there were a lot of tears involved with that.
But I have a question - the notice says I have to vacate by Oct. 1/06. That's only 2 months. My dad says I should have 3 months (or 90 days). I know I could look it up online but I really don't feel like searching. Lol. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!

What kind of lease do you have?

If you have a month to month lease, they only have to give you 60 days. If it's a year lease, they have to give you 90 days notice, and they can only terminate the lease at the END of the lease period.

Call the ORHT and they can help you out!!

Depends on your lease, like the above poster said. If you are month to month then they have a set amount of time they legally have to give. You will have to contact your local (provinical) landlord and tenants board to find out. If it is a fixed term lease they can break it for family, but again, will have a set amount of notice they have to give. If it is a fixed term then they don't have to renew if they don't want to.

Thanks! I looked into it and I guess they do only have to give me 2 months notice. Guess it's time to start the search.
*sighs*
