I've gotten an email about a new petition about changing the animal cruelity laws in Canada/Alberta/Calgary brought on by the incident in Didsbury area here in Alberta.. If you get it, tell who ever you got it from that petition doesn't matter because it's not actually a signed petition.

(On a side note, on the news, there are also scam artists trying to profit off of this by claiming to be with the Calgary Humane Society. TCHS said this is not true and they are not associated with the petition that some of the scam artists are claiming they are. So don't send money!)

On a more positive note:

Quote:
Harold Haggelund, an assistant crown prosecutor based in Calgary, is tasked with bringing the accused to court and, we hope, to justice.

Please thank Haggelund in advance for his vigorous pursuit of these charges and respectfully remind him that people who abuse animals rarely do so only once and almost never stop there. Politely explain that the safety of the community and its animals may well be at stake and ask Haggelund that, if the defendants are found guilty, he work with the courts to take the following actions:

Incarcerate the defendants.
Order them to undergo psychiatric evaluations and subsequent counselling.
Bar them from all future contact with animals.

Harold Haggelund, Assistant Crown Prosecutor
Calgary Chief Crown Prosecutor's Office
Rocky Mountain Plaza, 15th Fl.
615 Macleod Trl. S.E.
Calgary, AB T2G 4T8

So here is the actual petition for the government. If you print it off, sign it and send it to Tamara, she will collect all signatures to give to the MP's for the House..

(it's in my signature too!)

Dog torture showdown
Protesters confront accused outside court
Source

Quote:
Outside court, some held a silent protest standing beside a dog bowl filled with heart-shaped dog biscuits and placards while some mutts wore T-shirts 'In Memory of Daisy Duke.'

A tiny mutt named Cube -- saved from an abuser whose attack led to him losing an eye -- was reason enough for Calgarian Melissa Coderre to join the fight for animal rights.

A man claiming to be Haskett's friends said he was there to support him, but not to defend what happened to Daisy Duke.

If convicted, the law allows for six months in jail and/or a $2,000 fine for an adult.

The cases were adjourned with Haskett set to return on Nov. 22 while his co-accused has a Dec. 7 court date.[/b]

Don't respond! It's the wrong one. The one in my siggy needs a physical signature along with mailing address ~ that's what our government needs for a true petition. (I hope that helps.)

I don't know why people do it.

I was just wondering if anyone was interested in the real petition? Is my siggie helpful or is there more information anyone would like?
