My midwife gave me these vitamins today, Im not sure if they are only available in canada, but please read on.

I think most of us are on the typical multi-vitamin (materna etc) which contains calcium and iron together.

PregVit:

PregVit is in two different capsules in blister packs, you take one in the morning and one in the evening, both containing different vitamins. As some of you know that a regular multivitamin can also cause sleep loss of taken at night before bed.

Health Canada recommends the iron and calcium be taken at different times during the day since calcium and iron, when included in the same tablet, prevents your body from properly absorbing the iron (which is why some doctor's recommend an iron supplement on the side). Therefore PregVit provides the iron in the morning tablet and the calcium in the evening tablet.

By seperating iron from the calcium, PregVit reduces constipation (yay) and gastric discomfort usually experienced with one a day tablets.

They are smaller and easier to swallow

The blister package reduces the unpleasent and nauseating odour that is usually found with bulk packaging.

Covered by most private insurance companies, and is available by prescription only
