I was planning on an all natural labor but things did not go according to plan... I was induced with a gel to soften my cervix at 8 a.m on a Wednesday, started pitocine at 5 p.m, went without drugs for 7 hours then gave up! I had an epidural since Nicole was posterior "sunny side up" giving me back labor so even the pushing (which took 1 hour 45 min) was more difficult. Anyway, I had her 14 hours later for a grand total of 21 hours of labor!!!

Inductions suck!

With Sydney I had nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for a short while... Other than that, I haven't had pain meds.

First of all - congratulations on your new arrival!!!

I was induced with my first pregnancy - gel twice in one day which just caused "spasms" - contractions that were erratic and not productive - I was told was a rare side effect. They gave me demerol and a sleeping pill and sent me home and told me to come back in the morning and they would try inducing me again. About 14 hours of contractions later, I had only dilated up to 2 cm. I got started on pitocin, had my water broken and another 9 hours of contractions before I could start to push. I took whatever was offered to me - laughing gas, fentenol and finally an epidural before my eventual c-section.....

I was totally against it! but when I had 7 hours of labor pains and was still only 3cm, a small needle in the back didn't seem so bad anymore

I had Nubane by IV (makes you feel high as a kite LOL) then when that wore off I got my epidural. I hope to do the same this time, I have no tolerance for pain...whatsoever...at all LOL

I was induced with Daniel as well, and he was sunny side up as well.
No med's.

Most women who I have talked to who tried laughing gas said it made them really nauseous.

I had a little bit of laughing gas with my first and third (for like the last 10 minutes of labor), nothing with my second, and I had an epidural with my 4th. I was induced with her at 33 weeks, so my cervix wasn't cooperating. They checked me and I was 3 cm, and 3 long hours of hellish pain later I was still 3 cm. I decided I would rather die than be like that for another who knew how many hours, so I had the epidural.
This time, if I have a full term "normal" delivery I will not have an epidural, probably just another bit of laughing gas at my bedside.

That's awesome!

Yeah, that's what happened to me... my cervix was still really hard at 41 weeks.

I had that at the dentist for a root canal and I threw up in the chair, very embarassing!! So I think I will steer clear of it when the time comes!
