I have my 600 hours to qualify for maternity benefits. From what I understand maternity benefits are 15 weeks and parental benefits are for 35 weeks. Now does everyone who qualifys for maternity benefits qualify for parental aswell? And do you always get the full 35 weeks? Or is the their decsion?

Any info will be helpful! These government website are always so hard to figure out! Its like they dont want you to apply haha

I got both automatically last time. They paid me up until just after my daughter turned 1. I thought they went hand in hand. Oh and as far as I know it is not their decision, you can take the the full 35 if you want, infact you are entitled to it legally.

I split the parental with my hubby last time so that I could go back to work for tax season (aaah the life of an accountant!!) and he could stay home and be Mr. Mom. It was hard to go back early, but it was great for my hubby and daughter - they are VERY close and I really think it is due to him being so hands on very early in her life.

^ It is nice that you can split the parental or let the father do it all if need be. My guy makes all the money though so it makes alot more sense for me to take it haha
