Ontario is considering banning smoking in cars when you have children under the age of 16 in the car with you. What are peoples thoughts on this. I don't want it to be a debate I just want to see what other people think about this possibly happening.

Here is a link.

I think it should be banned.

It makes sense to me. If people want to do harm to themselves and smoke I can see they might consider themselves to have the right to do it (though it still sucks that it then costs our healthcare alot of money!) but I can't see how they can be seen has having the right to harm their children (or other people's children) with second hand smoke!

Understandable, but a car is persons private property, so its ridiculous. If a parent is that irresponsible, they shouldnt have kids.

I am happy that they are considering this. A young child has no way of standing up against an adult that thinks it is o.k to expose them to second hand smoke. I do realize it is their car and their own private space but it is also the space that young children are in and they have rights as well.

I am a non-smoker and so is my husband. I have no problems with someone who smokes (my mom does) and for the most part I have only experienced considerate smokers when they are around my children.

I think it's a wonderful idea. Just because a parent is a smoker, doesn't mean the child has to (inhale)!!
