Ok, so I bought an apple pie from Morrisons bakery, but my question is WHY does it have a "Use by" instead of a "best before" date? I thought usually cakes/bread etc have a best before and things such as meat have a use by

(I'm craving the apple pie and it was to be used by yesterday)

was if fresh? if it was fresh thats y its use by frozen is best before

If it was only yesterday, I personally would eat it

I think use by and best before are the same thing really... aren't they?

We've bought that same pie loads and we don't usually finish it until 1 or 2 days after the use by and it's fine... but if you're not comfortable to eat it, then don't risk it. You can tell by taste/smell if it's ok. But for 1 day I'm sure it's fine.

Use by means you must use it by the date

best before means you can eat it after the date but it will taste better if you eat it before the date

I didn't know if there was a specific reason - it turned toxic at midnight or something only joking.

There used to be a time when there was no such thing as sell by/use by/ best before dates!
