I'm new to the board so hello
A little bit about me, I'm from Milton Keynes and ive been with my partner for nearly 2 happy years were just about to move into our first home, I currently work full time but am hoping that that will change! We recently decided to TTC our first, very exciting
I'm just after some advice on TTC, me and my partner have very recently started trying and I'm not charting or anything yet but just wondering when is the best time to test?
I had my last af about 3 weeks ago now, we first started trying the Monday just gone. I had cramps most of Thursday night through to Friday and have had headaches, I don't know of this means anything! I should be expecting af again in a week at the earliest, but have no idea when I should test!
Can anyone give some advice? I'm totally clueless I know, I need to get used to all this!
Thanks ladies xx

Welcome to the board!

The test will be more accurate if you leave it until after AF is actually due, but some tests such as the First Response ones claim to give accurate results several days before. Personally I always leave it until 17/18 days past ovulation (when AF is a day or two late) because I find if I obsess, test early, that sort of thing, it just doesn't happen.

If you don't get lucky this cycle I truly recommend charting. I used Fertility Friend this time to map my most fertile periods - just the free version - and would show my DP as the time was coming up, but then he didn't find it off-putting, some men might. And it only took us 3 months to conceive.

Hello to you both and welcome to the board. My name is Louise and I live in Shropshire with my husband and two children - Zachary aged 4 and Mischa aged 3.
When I fell pregnant with my little boy I tested about 4-5 days before AF was due and got a negative result. I then tested 2-3 days after AF should have arrived and got a positive result! I guess it can depend on each individual though, as everyone's body is different.

I would say leave it till as close to the date you are due your AF as you possibly can. I am one of the impatient people and i usually start testing way too early which leads to stress because i get BFN, with my most recent pregnancy with my DD, i got a positive on an FRER the day before AF was due. Best of luck in your TTC journey and i hope you get your BFP very soon.

Thanks guys! I think we will at least wait until I'm due on cause of I get an early negative I probably won't want to take another one I'll be too sad!
How does the charting work exactly? Is it much work? I'm terrible with remembering to do things every day

Hi Georgina!

Best of luck to you. I'm another one that has to wait until after AF is due to get a positive result. I'm one of those freaky people that know I'm pregnant immediately as if by ESP. But early testing always gave me negatives and confused me!

I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend testing? hehe

I concur that Fertility Friend is very good. Have used to NFP. You can also get the ovulation kits. I bought a lens that you spit on that was pretty good for telling you ovulation, but took a bit of time to learn to read.

Fingers crossed for you! Hope you come back with some good news for us to celebrate!

Spot the difference!
Can anyone explain the difference between spotting and a period, or tell me if what I'm getting is spotting?
I've been wearing pads since I was due on af(Saturday) just in case, and starting this afternoon I had a couple of pink dots on it and then a bit of brown. When I go to the toilet and wipe its either pink or a dark red/brown, and not much of it. I've had virtually no pain/ cramps.
My normal period always starts heavy and stays that way until pretty much the last day, is generally bright red until near the end too and I get awful cramps before I start and for about the first 3 days. I also tend to feel sick and sometimes actually be sick, and generally don't wat to get out of bed! At the moment I feel fine apart from tiredness etc.
Just wondering if this is a really odd period or if it's a bit of spotting?
I've had a period since coming of the pill and it was completely normal to what I would expect so I can't say that I'm still settling back into my cycle.

Well, sometimes you get spotting at the start and end of a period too. But it's also common to get spotting very early on in pregnancy. And you can also get spotting if you have a UTI or some sort of infection down there.

Spotting as oppose to menstrual flow is where it's just the odd dot/spot/drip of blood, usually the pinkish or brown kind rather than the bright red, but can be bright red.

Hmm, see I've never had bleeding like this before I always come on heavy straight away and never bleed between periods. I don't like to think its early pregnancy because my test came out negative but now I'm totally confused as this is my only bleeding and it's 4 days late - whenever I'm late it's definitely heavy straight away and my cramps are really bad before the bleeding even starts. Totally confused!
