Hi Lou, i don't mind you asking at all hun. Amelia needs surgery because she was born with an under-developed left hip. It just means the ball joint bone is really small, so between that and her hip bone there was this big space. Its not good as she could dis-locate her hip very easily. She has been having x-rays since she was 8 months old and spent 6 months in a brace. But nothing was helping and her hip never improved so her doctor did a test tuesday so see exactly what was in that 'space'. If there was cartiledge (10% chance) she wouldn't need the op and if there was nothing (90% chance) she needed and op. He also then needed to determine which of two ops she would need. There was nothing in that space. Turns out he will have to break her hip bone and bring it down closer to the ball joint to reduce the space. She will spend about 3 months then in a cast from her chest to either her thighs or knees.
Jake then has a condition called eosophagitis, which is asthma of the eosophacus. When he has an attack it inflames his eosophacus and he can choke. He has chocked on us seriously 3 times but thank god DH knew the heimlich menovre. Last yr he was put on a steroid to help this and thank god it has worked and he hasn't had any attacks since. Between us and himself we are more aware too of what he can and cannot eat too(anything hard like an apple, pear, hard sweets etc are out of the question). His doc is leaving him on the steroid for now and we go back in a year for a check-up. So although we were completly shocked (even though we knew it was coming) about Amelia's op, we had some great news on the same day about Jake.
