I am still in a bit of shock over Amelia's operation being confirmed that i totally forgot to update you all on Jakes appointment. Amelia was delayed going to theatre so DH and I had to split, i stayed with Amelia and he took Jake to his appointment. His doctor is thrilled with him, and says the steroids are definatly doing the job for him. He stays on the steroids for now, as he has a stressful yr ahead with the change of school's and his first holy communion. She dosn't need to see him back for a WHOLE YEAR. That is fantastic, im so happy about it. He was such a doting brother yesterday im so proud of him. He was so good with Amelia playing with her while she waited to go to theatre and when she came back, my little miss decided it was snooze time and wouldn't wake up no matter how much we tried to wake her. We couldn't leave the hospital till she woke, ate, drank and was awake for an hour. He was kissing and cuddling her and tickling her toes, im so proud of him. Then he gave her his favourite teddy to cuddle on the way home. My little guy is turning into a big guy

I've obviously missed something being as I am not a regular visitor to the board. Why did Amelia need surgery and what's going on with Jake, if you don't mind me asking?

There is a thread somewhere round p1 or 2 about Amelia's surgery Lou - I'll let Molly fill you in on the rest.

Hi Lou, i don't mind you asking at all hun. Amelia needs surgery because she was born with an under-developed left hip. It just means the ball joint bone is really small, so between that and her hip bone there was this big space. Its not good as she could dis-locate her hip very easily. She has been having x-rays since she was 8 months old and spent 6 months in a brace. But nothing was helping and her hip never improved so her doctor did a test tuesday so see exactly what was in that 'space'. If there was cartiledge (10% chance) she wouldn't need the op and if there was nothing (90% chance) she needed and op. He also then needed to determine which of two ops she would need. There was nothing in that space. Turns out he will have to break her hip bone and bring it down closer to the ball joint to reduce the space. She will spend about 3 months then in a cast from her chest to either her thighs or knees.
Jake then has a condition called eosophagitis, which is asthma of the eosophacus. When he has an attack it inflames his eosophacus and he can choke. He has chocked on us seriously 3 times but thank god DH knew the heimlich menovre. Last yr he was put on a steroid to help this and thank god it has worked and he hasn't had any attacks since. Between us and himself we are more aware too of what he can and cannot eat too(anything hard like an apple, pear, hard sweets etc are out of the question). His doc is leaving him on the steroid for now and we go back in a year for a check-up. So although we were completly shocked (even though we knew it was coming) about Amelia's op, we had some great news on the same day about Jake.

Thanks for taking the time to share that Molly. Such a shame that Amelia will have to go through the ordeal of having surgery, but in the long run I guess it's going to be the best thing for her?
Definitely good news on Jake's part. It sounds like a very serious condition, so I bet you are relieved that the steroids are keeping it under control.

Lou you have no idea how much of a relief it is that the steroids are working we went through a phase there where we had to puree his food when he was 7 and i still have to cut up his food small. Amelia is eating bigger lumps than him, but you have to do what you have to do.
With Amelia, now is the best time to do it, if we don't she will need a full hip replacment in her later teens so its not an option not to do it now.
