We live in a 3 bedroom house.. lucas is in his own room (very small) the girls share a double room and me and hubby have the other double room..

if we have another boy we were going to swap our double room with the boys and we will go in the very small room (we dont mind as all we do is sleep in it anyway dont need room like the boys do for toys etc) but if we have another girl we are going to struggle fitting her in with the other two...

My son is going to be nearly 3 when the baby comes along would you put a boy and girl together? how long do you think its OK for them to stay in the same room together? i was thinking we should put them together for a while but don't know how long would be acceptable for..

ok i just come across this : Should Children of the Opposite Sex Share a Bedroom? - Safe Kids which says not only is there not a law in place that the eldest child can share until atleast 10.. and not 5 like i thought! i also have been reading on google about how some people seperate the bedrooms with big curtains etc so this may be something we can look into

& after all this worrying i bet im not even having a girl haha

Zach and Mischa are going to share a room initially until the new baby is settled at night and can sleep through without disturbing them. Then when the baby is old enough he/she will share with either Zach or Mischa, depending on the gender. I have absolutely no issue with them sharing a room.

I didn't think there was a law in place to determine what age children of different sexes have to stop sharing a bedroom. I don't suppose there is really a way for the government to impliment such a law.

We're in a 3 bed house. When Jaidyn was born Lucas was in the small room, the two girls in the biggest double and us with Jaidyn in the other double. Jaidyn stayed in with us until she was one, then we had a swap over, we moved into the smallest room and Lucas shared with Jaidyn. Lucas was just coming up on 7 when he moved in with Jaidyn. He shared with her up until last summer when we had another swap over. Lucas moved back into the small room, we got bunks for the girls room, the two older girls had high sleepers, Elijah kept hers, Lucas got Rheiya's and she now shares the bunks with Jaidyn (who's on the top). She sleeps in the same room as her sisters, but all her toys are in our room because there is plenty of room in there for her to play.

Most local council have rules as to when you are classed as not having enough rooms due to age & sex of children. Our council say kids of opposite sex are fine until the older child is 10, same sex are fine sharing until the older child is 12. Basically, according to our council's rules, we are two bedroom short due to having 3 girls aged 6, 14 & 16 and a boy aged 11. Needless to say we are not moving, the set=up seems to work just fine for us at the moment!

I'd share mixed genders until the elder one is starting to 'develop'.

Id share too, until they get to the age where one complains about having to share with a boy/girl. If i were to have another baby and it turned out to be a boy, the only place i would have is to share with Amelia. I already have the 2 boys in together, unless i got a set of bunks thats the only way i would fit 3 in their room.

Thanks for the advice! the girlS hVe bunk beds we would be able to fit another bed in there my only concern would be no space for toys! Lol so we pretty much decided tha Lucas and this baby can move in the bigger bedroom. Along comes another problem! Our bedroom is walk through :-/ we would wake them up trying to get to the bedroom at the back of the house ugh!

Are you going to find out before birth whether you are having a boy or girl?

When Michaela hits 1, she and Daniel will share a bedroom either until Daniel goes to high school or unless we manage to move out and get our own place / get a bigger place to share with my mum somewhere down the line. I don't have a problem with it and I don't expect the kids to either. I shared with my brother most of my childhood in the boxroom with bunk beds and we had the middle-sized room for all our toys. It was never an issue.

i like your thinking, although our "double" room isn't very double lol we have our bed in there two chest of drawers but we would never be able to fit any toys in there of the kids so i think we will just have to give them the double room and just have a bed in the box room.. at end of day we can stuff our clothes under the bed if we need too and put in a few shelves for our stuff
