So I told the doctor everything.

She agrees with me that it's time to go back on amitriptyline - it's my IBS medication, but it also treats stress and anxiety and is an anti-depressant, and a side-effect of it is it makes you drowsy and sleepy.

I took it the last 2 nights to test that it works for my sleep issues before seeing the doctor, and it did. Even last night when one of our neighbours had a medical emergency just before midnight and Shaun had to wake me up to watch Michaela, who'd only just dropped off and might have woken again, while he went over to help. I went straight back to sleep after.

It means I absolutely can't breast-feed any more, which I am sad about, but I can't go on like I was any more either. And as for my issues reducing supply, yesterday I only pumped when I got up and then again before bed - because I'm sleeping through, not pumping in the night is really reducing my supply at a rapid rate, even after 2 nights like that.

Michaela was also well enough to have her injections this morning. Her appetite seems to have improved since she's been on exclusively formula the last 2 days, and she's eating more.

I feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel at last.

Stopping breastfeeding is sad, but your health is also a priority and you need to make sure you are looking after yourself. I'm glad the doctor has put you back on the Amitriptyline. Hopefully it won't be long before you'll start feeling like your normal self again.

You need to look after all of you. Michaela has had some breast milk which is a fantastic achievement but now being on the tablets it is time to stop. If they help you get some sleep you will be more able to cope with the demands of daily life.
