After putting up with increasingly painful BH contractions for days they finally got the better of me and I went to the hospital yesterday to get checked out. Of course as soon as I set foot on the labour ward they stopped. The midwofe monitored the baby to check all was well (which it was) and did an internal exam to see if anything was happening (which it wasn't). After about an hour we came home feeling really frustrated. And wouldn't you know it, on our journey home the pains started up again! By the time I went to bed last night I was utterly exhausted but just couldn't settle off to sleep as I felt unsettled and irritable. Just as I finally got settled Zach started shouting and crying because he'd been sick in his bed. So for the rest of the night I've been kept awake by him periodically waking up to be sick. I am beyond upset right now. I know these things are outside of my control but hormones are making me super emotional and I could do without all this right now when I'm so close to the end of my pregnancy. *Sigh* Sorry for the long rambling post ladies. I'm just feeling a little fed up right now. Thanks for listening.
I know that end-of-pregnancy feeling is horrible - I was having contractions for weeks with Michaela (probably BH looking back but at the time the regularity of them made me wonder) and the is it today / isn't it today can drive you crazy. If you've got other things going on as well, I'm not surprised you feel overwhelmed.
I really hope Zach feels better soon. Can James not look after him if needed in the night since you're feeling in pain, tired and miserable as it is? Or is there anyone else who could stay with you and give you some extra support?
I also really hope your BHs lead somewhere more significant VERY soon. Even BHs are doing SOMETHING even if it's only just preparing your body, practice for baby or dilating you ever so slightly...so keep telling yourself that every little thing you feel is taking you one step closer. It probably won't make it any easier, but telling myself those things helped keep me sane when I was near the end.
Take naps during the day when you're not having the pains if you can.
Are you trying any natural remedies to encourage labour to start? None of them worked for me so I can't recommend them exactly, though I did have more pre-labour dilation than I did with Daniel. Walking, sex, evening primrose oil, red raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, curry....you know the drill I'm sure.
These contractions were coming so regularly and were really painful that I was utterly convinced they were the real thing. I've been getting plenty of BH up until this point but they've only ever felt like tightenings and have never stopped me in my tracks like these did. I felt like such an idiot when I got to the hospital. As a third time mum you'd think I'd know when I was in labour.
James was getting up to take care of Zach but because I was sleeping so very lightly I got woken up every time he was sick. I did get up to help James change bed sheets etc. That basically meant I got no sleep.
I haven't tried any remedies to try to encourage baby to come. Just figured s/he will come when ready and I'd only end up getting frustrated if nothing worked. I fully anticipate i'll go overdue like I did with Zach and Mischa.
