im thinking of haveing and iud but dont know which one my doc says she only does the copper one and ill have to go to a family planning clinic for a merina but i dont know. does anyone have one? wats your veiws/experiences with an iud. ive never had one b4 so anything you can add would be much appreciated. my doc said she would need me within the first 5 days of starting my period ive only had one since kyle i dont mean to be gross but wouldnt things get a bit messy . im just confussed about the whole thing
Without wishing to put you off, my friend had an IUD fitted about 4 months ago and she said it is the worst thing she has ever done. She was in absolute agony for weeks after it was fitted (she had to take time off work) and even now for at least 2 weeks out of every month it causes her pain.
Of course, it's different for everyone and it may be that while it doesn't suit my friend you may find that it's fine for you.
I have had 2, the normal copper type and the mirena.
Neither of them were too much trouble being put in... they are put in on your period as your cervix is slightly open then.. this makes it easier (and less painful) to put the coil in!
The normal coil was fine.. but I did find that it made my periods a little heavier... It does nothing but stop an embryo actually implanting... so theoretically, you 'could' conceive every month, but the pregnancy wouldnt 'take'
The Mirena didnt suit me as I dont get on with the hormones in it... it did make my periods stop altogether which I found a little disconcerting as each month I kinda convinced myself I was pregnant!
It is more likely to be 'safer' as the hormones inhibit ovulation, and also the physical presence of the coil, stop any products of conception implanting....
If you are cool with the 'no periods' thing... then I'd say to go with the mirena...
Its a one off thing (for a couple of years) and you really dont have to think about it too much... just check the threads regularly to make sure its not become dislodged...
thanks karen for that link
and thanks sampz but im still not sure im not too keen on no period coz how would you know if you got preggers i used to forget to take the pill b4 kyle so i was thinking of something long lasting i wouldnt like to get preggers (unplanned) ive heard the injection messes you up so ya haveing periods ere there an everywhere i just thought it would be one less thing to worry about .
i totaly understand its not for everyone there was a time i wasnt keen on the idea of one but now i dunno thanks for your replys laddies
