Zeb qualified and we start in two weeks! I am super excited to get some help and get moving in the right direction. I am still sad about the "significantly delayed" label, but I realize that it is a needed step in the process of getting therapy.

His receptive language is right on track for his actual age, but his expressive language is really behind. ReaganOrDean -- if you want ideas, let me know and I can share what they tell me. I already have some things that they want us to try after our evaluation.

Right now he says mmmmmmm for "more" and signs "milk" and "all done." He also says "roar" and "moo." We are hoping that he is saying at least 10 words in the next 6 months. We get therapy weekly, so I am super excited to get going.

Aaaaaaand, we just had his 18 month appt and he is in the 25TH PERCENTILE for weight! Woohoo!

Sounds great. I've considered speech therapy as well and have tried to google pediatric speech therapists in my area, but haven't been successful. My cousin's wife is a speech therapist, but they live about 40 miles away and I'm looking for someone a bit closer.

Good luck! I'm sure he'll do great with the extra help, I'm curious what they do to help him? And YAY for his weight!!

I've known several children who at their 2nd birthday don't even have 10 words they say. And none at Zeb's age. All of them ended up talking great and lots when they got a bit older. I'm curious what they do for speech therapy this young. Once he starts having it I would love to hear about it. With my kids at home I just say the applicable word very clearly a few times and encourage them to say it as well. But I would love some ideas for what else to do.

Zane used to say "up" "out" "owie" "yay" "dog" all the time (though dog was da). Now all he says is "hi" and "bye." And points and kind of shouts the rest of the time. This is new. Not a huge fan.

And yay for the percentiles!!! That's awesome!

I am also curious what they will do during the speech therapy at this age. I thought its too early at this stage? What made you consider ST?

GOod luck! (Ive taken st for 18 years and Im deaf.)

Therapy at this age will be just through play for him, so I'm sure he'll love it!! Hopefully it will be the little boost he needs and he'll be in and out I've done speech therapy for the last 4 years and find myself using therapy techniques with Josh all.the.time, so even if it just boosts his natural development you'll get some great ideas you can use even as his speech is developing later on.

Yay for the good percentile! That's awesome! And I'm glad he'll be getting the help he needs. I'm sure with just a little bit of work, his speech will take off. The last time we went to the pedi, she was concerned about Nadine's speech and recommended therapy, but within two weeks of the appt. she had started saying more, and now she's doing great, better than Esme even. Sometimes it just has to click. I'm sure it will for Zeb soon!

We had an eval that is set up through the school district, and they looked at his gross motor, fine motor, speech, and adaptive development. They think it might have to do with muscle tone in his cheeks and tongue, so they might suggest some things we can do to help with that.

I agree that it is very hard to do much at this age -- but I am glad we will be getting some ideas.
