we leave, luckily she doesnt do it very often. She pulled a massive fit when she was like 3 at Walmart we left a cart that was stuffed near the shoes and I dragged her out of the store...she barely has fits anymore
See, I feel like I am giving them what they want if I leave, so we will go to the bathroom & stay there as long as we have to for him/her to stop throwing a fit & then explain that when we get home, she WILL go to time-out & whatever punishment fits their age. NOT OKAY.
I can see that- but I was envisioning like a restaurant or something. I hate to be a jerk- but I can't stand when people just let their kids act like @$$holes and don't do anything about it. The bathroom works too! Haha
depending on the age holding out on the punishment often can back fire because they can't remember exactly why they got in trouble. By leaving your not giving them what they want (unless they're whining to leave, but say its they want a box of cookies) your sending a message that to be in public with mommy you need to behave a certain way and you wont stand for them acting out
this came up in class last night and one of the dads said his daughter was throwing a fit in a restaurant so he took her out to the car strapped her in her car seat and stood out side the door until she was done with her tantrum. He pretty much ignored her during it and had brought her out to the car so she couldnt hurt herself or bother other people while she was having the tantrum. I will need to remember that since really the only way to stop tantrums is to ignore them since the less attention they get by throwing them the less they will throw them (tantrums are tiring!)
Thanks Julia for the great siggy! <3
