Hey everyone! I'm Christina! I like to look at all the boards but don't post too often but I'm curious if you guys could help me with something... Sorry if it turns out long!

At the beginning of the year I went off of Birth control after about 10 years on bc of acne and what not...Well I kept not having periods so I finally after a couple months went to the doctor. He put me on Provera and I had blood tests. He called me a few days later and I had to have an MRI. He felt there was a chance I had a small tumor on my pituatary...well that came back negative! YAY!

So I went back after for a check up. I had had a period after about 7 weeks. When I went in he put me on Metformin and explained what it was for...and said he wanted me to take Provera and get checked out by my primary care dr (another issue) before putting me on clomid. Well before I could get the prescription I had a period for like a half day...maybe 18hrs...well I took a preg test just in case but took the Provera anyways....

So here we are about 4-5 weeks since...I am on the Metformin...lost about 10 pounds so far...Well yesterday I started my period..its still light...but I'm amazed I had one!!

So now I'm wanting some input...a couple weeks ago I felt sick for a few days....I had constant cramping and nausea....I didn't know what was going on...was I ovulating?!?! Have I taken a step in the right direction? I'm afraid of getting my hopes up...but isn't having a period on my own a good sign?!?

Would love some input and sorry so long....I just had to get it all out!

Did your dr give you a diagnosis of PCOS? or Insulin Resistance? If not, i wonder why he'd put you on metformin...

Having a period on your own is fantastic! the cramping nausea could definitely be related to Ovulation. Are you by any chance using OPKs? if not, you should definitely invest in some! they are wonderful and will give you a better idea of when you are ovulating and you'll know that your symptoms will correlate to your O date.

Keep us Posted but sounds like you are moving in the right direction!

Welcome to our board!

I'm curious too, did your Dr diagnose you with PCOS?
Lots of times, it takes PCOS and/or IR for Met to be Rx'd?

I would say definately that having a period on your own is definately a good place to start! I definately agree with using OPKs to help pinpoint O'ing.

Good luck and glad to have you here with us!

See thats the thing, he never actually said I have PCOS, but looking at the symptoms...I Have them ALL!

He just gave me that and said sometimes it helps you ovulate but never actually said it...

BUT I am a RN so I am all about self diagnosing! Haha...

I haven't tried the ovulation kits. I was going to go ahead and try them this cycle. USually my period is really short...but today is day 3...and tmi...sorry...but still bleeding just very little...so I am a little anxious about this month!

Thanks for the welcomes!

I know some old school docs still believe the patient is better off not knowing their diagnosis and just following doctors orders. My original doc back in 2000 did not tell me I had PCOS. It was only when I was speaking to an RN in the office later that she mentioned it in passing. I'm hoping all those docs like that are finally nearing retirement.

In addition to the OPK's you may want to start charting. That can be very helpful in pinpointing ovulation. Depending on your age and how quickly you want to move, you could take met in combo with clomid to boost your ovulation chances.

Welcome to the boards and I hope you don't have to stay here too long!

The pain could absolutely be from ovulation! On the rare occasion that I have a good, strong ovulation it hurts so bad I don't want to move which of course brings nausea along with it. Definitely use OPKs and I would also very highly recommend charting. It can help to confirm ovulation since OPKs are only an indicator that it might happen, it will help pinpoint a luteal phase defect (if you have one, hopefully you don't) and it can give you the certainty of what's going on. You'll know if you're actually late or still have 4 days until you should test or whatever. It can be a huge comfort when you're dealing with irregularity.

Good luck!

Yeah the pain was horrible for like 2 days...and the nausea was all there...It was almost scary bc I couldn't figure out what was going on!

The only think I'm unsure of is charting....I understand you have to do it at the same time...problem is...I work night shift 3-4 nights a week. I am never up at the same time...on my days off I stay on a similar schedule as my husband! I don't know how to do it with the way my schedule is But I am definitely going to use OPKs

So from what I understand is I am going to ovulate in the next 24-48 hours? I just want to make sure I'm clear so I don't get my hopes up.. Tonight and sat and sun night I work nights again so I don't see the hubby until about noon monday....I'm trying to be positive but feeling down...

You usually ovulate 24-36 hours after your last positive OPK so you'll want to keep testing until they go negative again.

Well...we finally got to bd on Monday evening...Talk about getting angry at working night shift! (I actually went in and asked my boss about moving to days...) so I guess there is a chance for a bfp? I would love to since it's his 30th bday a few days after af is due, but not getting my hopes up.... ;(
