I'm sorry about your diagnosis, but it really isn't necessarily as bad as it sounds. Depending on your case you may just need a tiny nudge to move things along and hopefully that's all you need. I didn't have any luck with Met, unfortunately. The GI problems were too much for me to handle. However, I have had 2 children since my diagnosis and we're hoping for another with just the assistance of Clomid when enough time has passed.

I hope the others can give you more information on Met and that you get your BFP very soon.

Hi Shannon... I am so glad you've joined us!

The women here are fantastic, knowledgable and all around awesome! i hope we can be of some help, in any way possible!

PCOS is not exactly an ideal situation, but it isn't a death sentence. It's just a really long bump in the road to conception. Many girls with PCOS go on to have successful, healthy pregnancies and babies.

I was on Metformin (2500mg) for a long time.. My PCOS symptoms didn't go away, but they did subside and i on occasion got my period on my own. I did manage to lose some weight on Metformin though. It's all on an individual basis hun. I have severe PCOS so metformin didn't help me much, and i had to have Ovarian Drilling Surgery which is what resulted in my pregnancy! That isn't the case for everyone with PCOS. You'll need to find what works for your body! my greatest advice first and foremost is to have a physician who will be proactive, and will give you all the necessary info and will do what is in your best interest. That is always the beginning.

I hope that Metformin will be all you need to get pg, but remember, if it isn't enough, there are plenty of other things you'll be able to do to help move things along!

I hope you enjoy your time with us and hope we can be a good support system for you!

The ladies here are phenomenal and without them i wouldn't have kept my sanity for the 16 months dh and i were ttc.!!!!

My name is Shannon and I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and put on Metformin. I don't really know anyone with this condition. I would love to hear from anyone going through the same thing, or who has gotten pregnant on Metformin. How long does it take on the meds before you get your period? How long did it take before you were able to get pregnant and did you have to do anything else to be able to concieve? My husband and I are SO ready to start our family, and I'm terrified that may not happen. Any input or anything you would be willing to share would be awesome.

Welcome to our board!

I am Natasha, 32, DH is Price, 45, we have been ttc for 27 months now with one loss in August '10.

Rita (Ritzbitz) and I are the co-hosts of this board and I agree, I think you will find that the ladies here are extraordinary!
There are ladies here who have been dealing with PCOS for many years, some only a short time, but you will find there has been a lot of research done among the ladies here.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 15 years ago, at around 18 years old. I have been on Met off and on since then. Without Met, I do not have natural periods. And honestly, without medical assistance of some kind, I usually only have a period about every 3 months.

I'm on Met now (1500 mg daily), I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't have trouble with the horrible GI s/e and for that I'm so thankful. I have tried Clomid, and actually the only pg I've ever had was a result of taking Femara. However, after those failed attempts at oral meds, DH and I are doing a cycle of injectable meds with an IUI during the month of November. We are hoping this works for us!

Sooooo nice to meet you and look forward to getting to know you better!!
Good luck with your journey!

HI!!! Nice to meet you! Hope to get to know you more!! Here's a little bit about what I have learned and delt with TTC with PCOS.
I was diagnosed the beginning of this year after hubby and I had been trying to conceive for 6 months with no luck. My OB put me on Metformin and after exactly one week of taking it I started my period. However, after a little over 2 months of taking it I decided I could not tolerate the side effects. I had constant stomach aches and sometimes they were so bad I didn't want to do anything or go anywhere.
We have now been trying for 14 months or so without a successful pregnancy but I have learned that I am ovulating by taking ovulation strips so that's a very big plus... I just started temping. It's something I never really thought would work for me because I don't have a set sleep schedule, but you should really look into it and start temping to learn more about when you ovulate.

I don't know if you are over weight, but I have been told repeatedly by DRs and OBGYNs that any bit of weight loss increases your chances of conceiving. So that is also something to keep in mind while begging your TTC journey with PCOS.
