Hey ladies! I just found out last week that I have PCOS after 17 months of VERY HEAVY periods. After my last baby boy was born I have had problems with clots and periods being a couple days early or late. I started ttc again around 4-5 months ago. I got off bcp about 7 months ago and I noticed my period got worse and the clots got bigger. I now have cramping randomly throughout the month when af is no where in sight. I am very overweight. I am 5`0 and 256 lbs. I was about to have Lap band Weight loss surgery when I found out that having a lot of nausea makes the band slip so I decided to have one last baby, hoping for a girl as I have 3 boys.. The doctor said since I don't have High Blood Pressure or Diabetes I could try and hopefully things will be okay. So I started ttc and after a few months got concerned because I got pregnant no more than 2 months ttc before with 2 and the 1st month with the last. So they did the progesterone test and it was negative, not ovulating and it went from there. Now I'm not sure if I should continue ttc or go ahead with lap band and take the risk because obviously my weight has to do with my PCOS and I need to lose some. Any advice is appreciated! Anyone in the same boat?

Hi Frankie!!!

I'm Aubrey!
I was diagnosed with PCOS after a year of trying to conceive naturally with my husband. My dr said to lose weight and conceiving would probably come more easily for us. Hahaha they make it sound sooo easy (yea right)
Have you tried taking Metformin for weigh loss? A lot of women with PCOS are insulin resistant and taking Metformin can help aid in loosing weight. Unfortunately for me I was gifted to get all the side effects that come with it and stopped taking it. However, many women take it with no problems at all. I know this really doesn't answer much in your question with lap band. But I honestly don't know anything about that. I've heard that even lap band is temporary for women with PCOS, but this was just hearsay, I don't have anything to back it up. I know our bodies react to carbs much differently then those without PCOS, and that going on a low carb diet or a low G.I. diet can do wonders for us to lose weight, it can just be pretty difficult to do. But, if I recall with lap band you have to do some pretty difficult maintenance eating afterwards anyways, so maybe trying a low carb diet wouldn't be too bad for you to try first?

Anyhow, I'm not too much help, but the women here are amazing and I'm sure someone will have some better information for you. I wish you the best in your weight loss AND ttc journey! I hope to see you around here more so we can get to know each other

Hi Frankie,
I'm Autumn, I think Aubrey is right with that. I know that I have a very bad reaction to carbs. I definitely gain weight faster than most when I don't limit my carbs. My doc diagnosed me with PCOS in Aug after very irregular periods and told me that she wanted me to go on Metformin or change my diet. I decided to change my diet first. She wanted me to eat less than 40 net carbs. I run a lot and was training for a 1/2 marathon for early November, so I would try on non training days to only eat that amount and on training days to eat a little more, mostly before my runs so I would have enough energy. Since August I have lost 7% of my body weight and I seem to be normalizing.
I know that you might be thinking that I was training for a run and all as well, but I have gained weight with my last training for Marathon and 1/2 Marathon, probably because I was eating too many carbs! Now that I have cut down on them I feel a ton better as well. I actually don't even crave them
Good luck!

Oh wow.. I'm starting to panic thinking about this stuff!! I will definitely take metformin but I'm worried about this diet thing. I did notice when I was losing weight a few months ago and I was on adipex diet pills, the last couple of months I gained a pound instead of losing. I didn't understand why. I guess I know why now. Is there a web site with a diet plan or something? Sheww.. I'm so frustrated with this! The lapband restricts your intake pretty much. Your stomach is very small and as long as you don't eat things like milkshakes or ice cream or others that will slip past the band into the bigger part of your stomach then you should do good. I go back to the dr tomorrow so I will update on what he says. Thanks so much and I will continue to come back here!

Went for follow up today and found out that its actually only the Insulin Resistance that I have. The hormones were normal level in my blood only the insulin level was 29 instead of the normal 24-25 I think is what my doctor said. She gave me Metformin and I'm going to continue ttc!
