I have been diagnosed with a mild case of PCOS.

My insulin levels are normal, testosterone is in the normal range- but on the high end of it. My FSH and LH levels however are switched---still waiting for Quest to release the actual numbers though.

My doctor is calling in a prescription for Metformin- 500mg a day for the first 6-8 weeks and then we will reevaluate after that if I am not pregnant. My doctor said that she fully expects this to take care of the issue quickly, regulate me and that I will be pregnant in no time.

I wish you the best of luck with Metformin. I was one of the unlucky ones who had the terrible side effects from it. HOWEVER I gave it another try and have been doing really well on it Good luck and can't wait to get to know you more!!!

Thanks ladies, so far the Metformin seems to be ok. I am taking it right before bed with my prenatal and so far so good. My stomach seems a little uneasy at times, and I have been constipated (TMI) but not sure if that is the Metformin or still just the prenatals. I think I might try taking the Metformin at night and the prenatal in the morning to see if breaking them up helps with it.

Aubrey, how long were you on the Met. before you conceived?

Well, I'm actually not a good example of Metformin helping with conception. I was on it for 2 1/2 months. Couldn't handle the side effects. Was off of it for about 4 months. Then after trying Soy and having a long cycle my DH talked me into giving it a try again. I actually started it THIS cycle, at 7DPO, pure coincident that that was the day I had my temperature dip, the day I assume implantation occurred. I have been on it ever since that day. And will continue until my OBGYN says to stop.

So I'm sorry I couldn't be more of a help. I hear some women get pregnant really quick after starting it, and some are on it for long periods without it helping them conceive. But, I CAN state that it helped me regulate my cycles for the 2 1/2 months that I was on it.

Hopefully it will just take metformin to get you pregnant. Metformin didn't work on me just alone with my first pregnancy. So i was put on clomid too, and got pregnant on first try. But i've heard some women were able to get pregnant on just met alone.

Aubrey, thanks for the information atleast it did help regulate your cycles though. Were any of you diagnosed with PCOS, but didn't have insulin problems? I am finding that it seems most woman also have insulin issues however mine came back regular.

Thanks Chen, I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.

I don't have insulin problems at this point and do have a PCOS diagnosis. My OB was actually upset that I'd been put on Met without IR because it can greatly reduce the benefits and she felt that my history hadn't been taken into consideration when it was prescribed by another doctor. Fun stuff.
