Hey ladies,

I just started Metformin on Friday, which was CD 26 for me. The past 2 months, non-medicated- I o'd on CD20 and then CD24 last month. I am wondering if starting Metformin in the middle of a cycle would impact O that month? I had some signs of O nearing when I started the Metformin and now I am not sure if I o'd or if it will be delayed. This is also my first month of temping, so I am not sure how accurate my chart really is.

I guess in general I just wonder how quickly you started noticing Metformin impacting your cycle?

I don't know if it will have a big impact on O this cycle since you have only been taking it a few days.

I noticed right away my cycles got shorter while on it. I think my first full cycle on it was 32 days long

I hope you have the success I did! I wish I could get it prescribed again...

I don't think it will prompt O right away. I know usually it takes a couple months for the metformin to kick in. It's to just really regulate your hormones, and hopefully your cycles. I've heard some women were able to get pregnant on metformin alone. As for me, when i first took it , it didn't work for me. Then doc had to put me on Clomid to get me to get a true "O". Then i got pregnant on first try.

Ok thanks ladies. I have only been off bcp for 6 cycles counting this one, so my dr thinks we caught it early enough that I was still o'ing...it was just taking me longer and longer each month to do it. The first 3 months of bcp were like clockwork- 30, 32, and then 31 days. The 4th cycle moved to 35 days, and then last cycled moved to 39 days. So my cycles weren't too far out of control when I asked for BW because my sister has PCOS and things were just too similar. Looking at my blood work (I finally got the actual results)- my testosterone level is 42- which is the upper limit of normal and my LH was 20.7 the normal range for pre-o is 1.9-12.5.

I am hopeful Met. will do it, but if not then we will take the next steps to get to that end result.

I agree that the Met shouldn't work that quickly, but depending on what's going on with your hormones you may notice a difference next cycle. It could be a lot or it could be a little. You'll have to wait and see. Good luck!
