So a couple months ago, about 3, i was diagnosed with PCOS. The dr i was seeing at time was very informative. but when i told her that my insurance doesn't cover fertility she passed me on to another dr. i was a bit sad and upset because from the tests that we had done she could've prescribed me metformin. dh and i had taken a break from all this stuff and just recently started up with ttc and charting again. Here goes to a new year and a new HELPFULL dr =)

HI there, and good luck Just wanted to also let you know that when dh and I were trying to conceive our son, I was also diagnosed with PCOS. It was sad about it. But having PCOS wasn't as bad as just not being able to conceive at all. We went on to conceive our son. He is now 3yrs old I am now pregnant with baby #2, and second time around.....i had no PCOS!! and...we were able to conceive within 3mths

So having PCOS doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. It just means you will need a boost to jump start your cycles. Good luck

I was also recently diagnosed. I have to go to a military clinic for all health care where I am at. Everything is covered, but getting them to diagnose anything is a battle! I feel you on doctor frustration. My last doctor ran a thyroid test when I told her I had every PCOS symptom, 3 periods in one year since stopping BC, and I gained 50 pounds in that time, too!!! She said my thyroid was fine and she'd send me to a nutritionist.. otherwise she had no "magic bullet" for me..

I took that and then got so frustrated that I finally made a complaint on her because I knew I wasn't crazy. I got a referral from my complaint to an off post German OB/GYN, which made me nervous because I had no idea how German health care was.. He took blood twice and said my testosterone levels were elevated, which was a clear sign and then did an internal ultrasound and showed me the cysts on my ovaries and immediately gave me a prescription for metformin (which I have been on for about 2 weeks now and already feeling more "alive" and full of energy like myself again) at 500mg 2x/day. Also he is following up at 4 weeks to see how it helps. My appointment is the 23rd. I am also TTC.

I think as soon as your new doc gives your metformin, you might be like me and just overall feel better, too. I don't think that your insurance company should consider the metformin a "fertility" issue because most people with PCOS have some insulin resistance and metformin is used as a pre-diabetic treatment. The way my doctor described the use for me of metformin is that one of the side-effects of metformin is anti-androgen (the male hormones). The androgens were produced my the cysts and that the metformin would decrease those over time, which would hopefully create a pregnancy. If that doesn't work, then a fertility drug would be included.

I hope to hear your success story on here this year. 2012 should be a good year for a lot of us. Welcome to this board!

I'm Aubrey and my DH is Jason. We are currently expecting, but let me tell you a little about our journey. We had tried for about 6 months before realizing something was wrong. My OBGYN had ran tests and diagnosed me with PCOS. Then prescribed Metformin. I could not tolerate it, it tore my stomach up and I was constantly tired. So I moved on to trying to lose weight in hopes we would get our BFP. Months gone by and things were starting to regulate with just a little weight loss. We finally conceived the first month I started temping, and I was also on my second cycle of Soy Isoflavones (works similar to how Clomid works, but over the counter). I can't really say that there was ONE thing that did it for us, just never giving up and keeping at it. We had tried for 15 months before finally getting our first BFP.

This board has been great help to me. I have learned so much here and gained so many friends! The women know a ton and are always friendly and supportive! I hope you will jump right in and ask or add anything you want

I wish you the best of luck with your new doctor!!!

Like many PCOSers, the finding of a PCOS-friendly doctor can be tough, and I can't imagine what it would be like with insurance things thrown in!!

I was so lucky to have a doctor who was versed in PCOS when I was diagnosed back in 2002 since it wasn't very easy to find a doctor who knew ANYTHING about it back then. It's now become much more reported on in the medical journals, etc.

But I had issues with getting any prescriptions for anything as well. Even though I love my doctor to pieces, she didn't feel comfortable prescribing met even before I was TTC (it's apparently awesome for weight loss too) ... so I've been going "au naturelle" while waiting to get into the fertility clinic (had to be TTC for a year before you can get a referral here).

Hopefully this will be our lucky year

PCOS totally sucks but it isnt a death sentence!!
i was dx with it in 08'.. my baby girl is almost 2 months old!
I did have to have ovarian drilling to conceive.
i had fertility treatments and all that jazz for almost a year before resorting to surgery and i am glad i did!!

I'm Natasha, one of the co-hosts here. My DH and I have been TTC our first together since '08 with one loss in August '10. I've known for many years that I've had PCOS, but it never really became a problem until after DH and I were married and actually started trying....

I hope this new Dr is all it takes to help you and your DH bring your LO into the world!

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi guys So glad to see a warm welcome. its also nice to see success stories out there. Right now i have been charting and doing all the usual stuff. Had come off a nasty cold so exercising was put on hold. DH surprised me with a spa day for this weekend, with a therapist that specializes in prenatal massages like lower back and around my abdomen. Cant wait for that!! But reading everyones stories here has put a smile on my face!!
