I am so confused!
Last week I was diagnosed with having PCOS. My hubby and I have been TTC for two years now, and my husband just recently got a new job with excellent benefits so we were finally able to see a doctor to find out what’s going on. The doctor did a ton of tests, including a vaginal ultrasound. We also had my husband’s sperm count test, etc. Here’s what I was told:
I have multiple cysts on both ovaries. My uterus looks fine.
My blood work looked great, including no sign of high cholesterol or diabetes.
Follicles look good, so she’s comfortable doing a few rounds of Clomid to see if that stimulates ovulation.
My husband’s tests looked great – so there doesn’t seem to be an issue there.
And here’s where I am weird. I have not done OPK’s all the time – I did them occasionally and I found them hard to read, etc. My OBGYN asked me to do OPK’s on days 10 through 20. I did that this month, and was kind of excited that I kept getting negative results, because I thought it confirmed that ovulation was the issue and Clomid might be the answer to our prayers. That was until yesterday when I get a very clear positive OPK. UGH!!! I went on JustMommies and found several posts about OPK’s not being reliable for ladies with PCOS. I was back feeling okay and then I went to the ladies room and I had tons of CM. I haven’t had that before… it was really weird. I took an OPK this morning and it was NEGATIVE.
So…. I know I should possibly be happy that it looks like I really maybe ovulated, but it just makes me confused and concerned that maybe ovulation isn’t our only problem and maybe there is something else going wrong. The doctor wants me to take Clomid for 3 cycles, and if that isn’t successful then she wants to do an HSG to see if there are any blockages. If the Clomid isn’t successful she wants to send me to a fertility specialist. The other thing that is so confusing is that I continue to have regular cycles. I was curious if had PCOS, but wasn’t sure (until the doctor said so) because I have never had irregular periods.
So is there a chance that ovulation is still the issue and despite always having regular periods that I am not ovulating regularly and Clomid might help? I know I’m grasping at straws, but I just want some good news for once. In two years we have never even had a false positive HPT.... nothing, not one positive in two years.
