So I am pumping for my baby in the NICU and I was wondering what the thoughts were on getting pregnant while doing this? I read online that if you don't do it every 3 hours or so and if you aren't actually breastfeeding then you can get pregnant?
I am 10 weeks post-partum so when should I expect an AF? I pump about every 5-6 hours...sometimes longer so I'm wondering if the "6 months of fertile time" after you give birth still applies?
Every person is different. Some people would have gotten AF back by 10 weeks PP with only pumping. Some would get AF in the same time if they were BFing with no pumping. You could go for months without getting AF or you could get it tomorrow. Good luck to you!
Thank you peimum for my siggie

I was BFing (no pumping but not exclusively) and I didn't get AF back until about 6 weeks after I stopped all nursing. But I have a friend who was (and still is) BFing exclusively and she had AF back within about 2.5 months. Totally depends on your body I guess.
But GOOD LUCK!
Maybe Kate will chime in here. She got PG while exclusively breast feeding so it is definitely possible
Thanks Chelsea (GraysMama) for my fantastic signature!
I BFed and once I went back to work did a lot of pumping (when I could anyway). Some days I would not get to pump at all at work and I work 12 hours shifts as a nurse. I didn't get AF until I completely stopped all BFing and pumping. Like everyone's said, everyone's different!
I got my first cycle at 12 months PP, when I was only feeding him once or twice a day...but, it is different for everyone...I know that Casey and I both had irregular periods before baby, and I think Kate had very regular periods...so I think that determines it a lot also...
How is Liam doing, how are you doing?
I think about you guys often
I got AF back at 5 1/2m PP. I got pregnant 2 months later, surprise!! Its definitely possible. I know it varies from person to person, b/c i was still ebf with solids, but no bottles/pumping/supplementing, and it still came back.
Like the girls said i had very regular cycles before, and had no real reason as to why it took me so long to conceive Tyler, but it took me a year to get pregnant he first time, then another 7 months after a loss...so a pretty good long time. I was definitely shocked to get pregnant again so soon!
