Since I got a tour of my church on Saturday I got to hear who's bone was in an altar (I didn't even know altars had bones under them), do you know who (if anyone) is in your altar?

I don't know which relic is under our altar, but I do remember hearing about this at my First Communion class. The priest had given us a tour of the church and showed us the spot under the altar where the relics were sealed! We all thought it was SOOOO cool to be allowed to go up on the altar.

Well, I can't speak for all churches, but I'm certain Our Lady (and there are lots of those) can't have Mary's bones...so I don't think that is really the for sure idea. Ours is not Mark, St. F something...gosh I just heard last weekend and I already can't remember, that's how awesome I am...I hear he has something to do with animals? Name anyone????

St. Francis of Assissi is the one usually associated with animals. I don't know whose relics are in our altar.

St Francis is DH's Patron. He was going to be a Vet.

Yes they told us someone's buried in the altar but I can't recall who, we're St Joseph's but I don't think he's in there either

I haven't heard of most churches having bones or relics of any kinds. I'm interested now to see if we have some in ours now. Do all churches do that?

I'm pretty sure every Catholic altar is supposed to have a relic enclosed in it, usually it's right under the spot where the Consecration happens (and the spot the priest kisses at the beginning of Mass).
