Would you pray for a pet if a friend asked you? For instance, if the pet is very sick & might die soon. Or would you, instead, pray for the family to find comfort during this difficult for them time?

Sure, I'd pray for both the pet and the friends!

I've prayed for my own pets before so I'd pray for a friend's pet too!

OK, I know this is going to sound terrible to most of you, but... I just don't understand the attachment some people feel toward their animals. If the pet is dying you certainly needn't pray for it's soul, so I would pray for consolation for my friend and leave it at that.

Well.. To be completely honest, I feel the same way as you which is why I asked. I don't think it sounds terrible at all. I do not understand the attachment either, at least not the kind-of attachment I see sometimes where people spend thousands of dollars on surgeries but then post how expensive it is to have another baby.

I would pray that the pet pass peacefully and comfort for the family. I love my dog but he is a dog not my child. I do not place animals on the same level as a person. But he is a good dog and I certainly wouldn't want him or any creature to suffer. I definitely wouldn't rack up a large vet bill to save him.

Certainly, I see no reason not to. I see the soul of the pet mentioned, Idk if that's what I'd pray for, but healing, or something of that nature, sure.

We just lost our dog of ten years over the weekend. It was sudden and unexpected and DH and I had to make the excruciating decision to put her down. I know she was a dog and not a person, but the pain of losing a companion is still devastating.

I don't know that I believe animals have a soul and would need my prayers for that reason, but I do believe that she was a creature of God and experienced pain and fear and therefore my prayers were for her comfort and security until she passed.

Both,

the school my kiddos attendeds even does a special pet blessing each spring, where you can bring your furry friend or a picture if they can't come, and a local priest comes and does a blessing. it's very moving.
