My two girls didn't wear veils, so I'm guessing it's a tradition as out Priest is very strict and if there was a meaning I'm sure they would have worn them

Hm... they've just had a bunch of first communions at the two churches we attend, and I haven't seen anyone wear a veil... just flowers in the hair.
Maybe it's a cultural thing?

ETA: check out this link, it has some sort of explanation: http://www.a-special-day.com/first-communion.htm

Must be older tradition. I wore one on my first communion. But most the kids I seen these days did not wear them. Many only had flowers in their hair if anything at all.

Alex's first communion was last year, and it varied; some girls wore veils and some wore flowrers

I wore a veil but that was 20 years ago...hmmm...I guess it's an older tradition. God-willing,
I will have Clare wear a veil.
