Can I have my 20mo old blessed? My other three children were baptized prior to me being introduced to the LDS religion. I know that children aren't baptized until age 8, but can I have Linden blessed? What is a "blessing" exactly in this religion?

The blessing that is given to babies is a naming blessing. Yes, you can bless older children as well. It is something that you would have to talk to the bishop of your ward about. As far as what a blessing is, THIS TALK does a great job explaining it and the different blessings people can get through their life.

A blessing puts them on the records of the church. Generally we do it for infants, but there are reasons to do it at other ages. A friend had her son blessed at 5 because that's how old he was when they adopted him.

I spoke with the missionaries today. They said they will speak about getting a blessing for Linden. I wonder if I should do it for my other children...they are 9, 6, and 4???

The blessing isn't a saving ordinance, so you don't have to have it done. It doesn't affect salvation if it's done or not. For your older kids, it would probably be something more like a father's blessing, which are performed at home rather than in sacrament meeting and aren't recorded. And at 9, your oldest is old enough to be baptized.

I had a cousin that was blessed a couple months after she turned 2, but I've not heard of any older than that. Definitely something to speak to your bishop about.

The 9 year can be baptized so there's no reason to get their name on the records of the church through a blessing. The 6 and 4 year olds are a possibility. Talk to your bishop about that.
