I got a new calling, too

I'm the co-leader for the 8 and 9 year old Achievement girls. I love doing Achievement and especially love the 8 and 9 year olds. They are so cute and excited about everything. We joined with the other ward that meets in our building a few months ago for mid-week activities so the other leader is someone from the other ward who I don't know. I know one of our girls very well and the other barely. I know one of the girls from the other ward. This should be interesting

I had a great time last night! The girls are very active and love to laugh and have fun. We had 8 girls from just turned 8 last month to about to turn 10 and move up to the older girls' group this month. When they got there we had them fill out as much as they could on a family group sheet. Then we sat in a circle and had them tell the family history stories we asked them to come prepared with. We had one who has a great-great-great-grandfather who was an apostle in the late 1800s and early 1900s, another whose parents immigrated from Africa and her grandfather is a very important person in their country, another who had ancestors who were pioneers to Idaho when no one lived there, and some other really interesting stories. One even brought a picture of her great-grandmother from when she got married in 1928. That great-grandma was one of the first women to go to LDS Business College! They were all fascinated by each other's stories. Then we went down to the Family History Center and the girls each got on a computer and we got them onto Ancestry.Com and we tried our best to find some record of their relatives (like a census or something). Two we couldn't find (none of them had much information to go on) so one took home a census with Thomas S. Monson as a child and another a census with Gordon B. Hinckley as a child. Next time we're going to have a movie night with all the Achievement girls, hopefully showing Nephi and Laban by Liken the Scriptures.

My co-leader and I had a great planning meeting beforehand and planned all the way through July!
