I read somewhere that the average American only reads a couple books a *year* and about 100 in their lifetime. I don't get it. I seriously don't get it. I LOVE to read. I can't imagine going through life and barely reading. I read to myself, I read to my mom and big kids, I read to the little boys (but I don't count those books since their little kid books), I read to my husband and kids... I just read. I read a wide variety of stuff. I'm rereading the Anastasia Krupnik series by Lois Lowry right now. Obviously that's way too easy for me and I read them fast, but it's been a long time since I read them and it's where I got Ani's first name (which is Anastasia). I read everything the kids have to read in school so we can have intelligent discussions about them. I read free books I download to my Kindle in all sorts of genres (some are good, some are not, some have led me to read a lot more by the author). I've even branched out a little recently and found that I enjoy some genres I never liked before.
So the last two years I've kept track of how many books I've read and how many pages. In 2010 I read 61 books and 18,843 pages. In 2011 I read 101 books and 26,135 pages. Can you tell my littlest is getting bigger and I have more time? My goal is always to read a book a week. It's fun to see if I can outdo my previous year, too, though. We'll see what happens in 2012.

wow...just wow. I am dyslexic so it is REALLY hard for me to read. I do love to listen to audio books, but it takes a long time to get through one book that way. I would never be able to read that many books without the audio portion. I don't have access to too many of those for now, but when we have more money, I will listen to a lot more!

I LOVE TO READ! But rarely have the time. I can, if given the opportunity, read an entire book in one-two days. When I travel for work I often listen to books on cd as well....love that!

I also love reading and have really picked it back up in earnest the last few months. I am always looking for good book recommendations especially from LDS people. I hate that there is no rating system for books so you don't really know what you're getting into. I can't tell you how many books I've had to put down because of offensive material. I would love to hear any recommendations you have.

We all (me, two big kids, my husband, and my parents) absolutely loved Michael Vey: Prisoner of Cell 25 by Richard Paul Evans (who is LDS, but the book is not an LDS book). We also all really enjoyed The Hunger Games trilogy. As a family we're reading the Tennis Shoes series by Chris Heimerdinger. The first couple the writing is pretty bad, but he definitely got better as time went on!

thanks Heather! The Hunger games were great. I have not read Michael Vey and will definitely check it out.
Haha I used to devour the tennis shoes series when I was a kid...haven't read any of them since I was like 12. Maybe I'll revisit them. I remember enjoying The Feathered Serpent.

I love to read too. Just finished the Hunger Games last week. It took me 4 days to read all 3. So I guess I've met you quota for the year statistically. lol
I can't find my Kindle though!!!! ACK!!!! Not good. I'm really confused as to where it could be. I want my Kindle back.

It would drive me crazy if I lost my Kindle. I reread the Hunger Games last week. I love those books. Even better the second time around!
So far this year I've read 36 books. That is insane.

Oh wow Heather! I'm not sure how many I've read, but not nearly that many.
I really want my Kindle!
