Patriarchal Blessing

My fiance and I had dinner with the missionaries last week and while out they told me that I could get my patriarchal blessing. I didn't know I could get it so soon after being baptized, but they told me that I could. I would really like to have it done, but don't know if I should do it so quickly. I kinda feel like I'm cheating or something; getting it done without having to "work" for it. I live by the gospel, I follow the Words of Wisdom, so I can't say I don't deserve to have it done....am I crazy??

Getting a patriarchal blessing is a bit more about maturity and being able to understand it than how long you've been a member. If you understand what they are you can definitely get yours.

I second Heather. You can definitely get one once you know what it is after baptism. I LOVE my patriarchal blessing. DH got his as an adult right before we got married and it is a wonderful blessing as well.

The Patriarchal blessing is not an ordinance. There's no covenant being made, it is not necessary for salvation. It's the same premise as a blessing for healing and/or a father's blessing, only it's very specific about blessings/warnings/direction in your life (thus get record it, file it with Salt Lake, and you get a written transcript so you can read over it whenever you want). So like Heather said, you don't have to be member long. I got mine when I was 14, which from what I understood at the time was considered a bit young (although I know a LOT of people who got it around that age). It's brought me a lot of peace at times, because I know it's specific things that my Father in Heaven wants for me in my life.

Now I need to pull it out and read it!

It's always good to have guidance. And it's amazing how different things jump out at you. What I get from it now is much different than before I got married, or before Cora died.

It's not where I thought it was though.

If you can't find it LDS.org has a link right on the menu for requesting a copy. I guess people lose it a lot so they made it easy to get a new one printed out.

You should do it! I love having my patriarchial blessing, and don't worry, you're not cheating at all

. The Lord gives us loads of blessings that we haven't "earned". I don't deserve half of the things the Lord has blessed me with but I happily accept them
