We finally decided to get the boys bunkbeds. All three of them are in one room and they were using our old queen size bed which was wearing out (we bought it when we got married). Well, then my mom said we ought to repaint their room and that has totally turned into a Project. We've been working on it since yesterday afternoon and it's actually coming along faster than I thought it would. Since Monday's a federal holiday we'll definitely finish it by then. The bunkbed is being delivered next weekend so we want the room all ready by then. Here's what we've done so far.
First we had to take off the wallpaper on the big wall. Remind to never, ever get the urge to redo my room. All four walls are papered. And they will be forever. Ani, Cameron, and Fritz all helped me do the wallpaper. It took about 6 hours all together.
Jamie brought home painting supplies, Kilz, and painters' tape last night so after dinner we got everything taped and ready to paint. The big kids wanted to start painting then, but it was too late and I was way too tired after all those hours of removing wallpaper.
This morning at 8 we got to work painting with the Kilz. We were able to do one coat, go to the dump to get rid of the old bed, do another coat, and go to Home Depot for the paint. Bonus: 10 minutes of painting a wall equals one Weight Watchers Activity Point.
Jamie and the big kids painted the orange trim.
We painted all the walls Woozle Green. It's so pretty. It's a very pale green. Funny thing is if you notice in the first picture the walls very pastel green before, just much darker!
The blue wall is done except for the handprint (which will be done tomorrow with Woozle Green right in the middle of the wall). That's Fritz's wall. Cameron's orange wall needs a second coat and Adrian's red wall needs to be done completely. BTW, we used the sheets from their old bed as drop cloths. It was our only queen size bed so they were just going to get thrown away anyway.
We have to do some cleanup on the orange trim. We're going to do everyone's (from my dad on down to Adrian) handprints along one area. Each boy picked a color (orange, blue, red) for the walls in the cubby under the counter and they will have a handprint on their color wall. We're going to do splatter painting on the walls. We got Disney color paints in orange (Bouncy Bouncy), red (Mickey's Pants), blue (Sorcerers Hat), yellow (Sunny Spot), and green (Gamma Sector Green). We have to test on cardboard to see just how it'll go, but I think we're going to do a combination of the spray bottle and tapping a brush on a stick techniques.
