So Matt's company has a big Christmas party every year. The switch off between "diamonds and jeans" and "cocktail," and this year it's the more formal cocktail dress theme. And even though we obviously won't be drinking, they have an AMAZING dinner every year and give out some great prizes (Matt won $100 gift certificate from best buy last year), and it's a great excuse for a date, so we love to go.

But I don't have a cocktail dress.

And even the "modest" cocktail dresses don't really work with garments.

Matt's insisting that we should buy one so I don't have to "go through all the trouble" of making one, but seriously? It's WAY more frustrating looking for some thing that would be modest enough AND my size (ugh) that I wouldn't have to alter that doesn't look frumpy.




I'm going to end up making it anyway, so I'm already looking at patterns. I'm thinking either this

I am going to sound rude but what size are you looking for? I have seen my LDS friend share amazing websites for modest dresses, one where you can even customize certain aspects of the gowns like the sleeves. I'll see if I can find some links for you.

Oh I am jealous I haven't seen a 16 in a decade! OK I bought a size 16 right after Scarlett was born and wore it for about 15 minutes before boomeranging back to my standard body weight of the last decade.

Oh yes I love the first dress you picked I think it would be very nice in black! The second one looks Halloweeny to me I think it might be the trunk or treat tonight, or the colors they picked!

See, Matt knows I don't actually *like* to sew, and I think that's why he wants to buy something. But I HATE shopping more. And as nice as those websites are, Nicole (they gave me some ideas), I no longer buy clothing I can't try on first.

I think I like the first pattern more, because it's different, you know? I really do like the second one, but I wouldn't be doing black and hot pink (not because I think it looks Halloweeny, but because I think it looks Promy).

I told him he could pick the final pattern and the fabric.
