Tuesday May 11th-3 days past my due date I had contractions for most of the night before they would be regular and then they would space out and eventually died out.... DH came home for lunch around 12pm and complained that he didn't want to go back to work... I joked with him that maybe if we dtd that something might happen and he wouldn't have to finish out his day at work. so we DTD. About 3 pm I texted him letting him know that the contractions were 5mins apart lasting a minute for an hour and that I had just gotten sick. I still wasn't excited or thinking anything was going on as this had happened before and there was no change in my cervix ( I had been at 2 cm and 50 % since 37 weeks)....He convinced me to call L&D so I did. I spoke with the nurse and told her what was going on,she asked if I was going to head on in I told her that I didn't want to be sent home so we both decided that I should stay home for another hour and she would call me and see how things were going, but she said I should come in though if I had bloody show or my water broke. I said ok. I went to the bathroom and got up and noticed blood in the toilet and on the toilet paper, however it didn't look like there was mucous mixed in with it and it was bright red. I called DH and told him to head home that we needed to go in that I was bleeding pretty significantly. I called the nurse back and let her know she told me that I needed to hang up with her and call an ambulance and then she tried to put me on hold ! *** really!? we live on a tiny island I can get there before the ambulance can. I just got in the car with DH and we headed in I told him not to bring everything because I was sure we would get sent home that I probably just had a kidney stone or something.... We arrived at L&D around 4:30pm and they took us back to triage my contractions were still regualr at this point. I gave a urine sample and it looked like it was straight blood. DH had this look of fear on his face when he saw it. The Dr on duty came in and introduced herself and did a speculum exam to find the cause of the bleeding she said it looked like bloody show at this point I was still sure that we would be sent home caiuse I hadn't dialated far enough... she checked me I was a 4-5 and she said those magical words ok we're going to admit you lets have a baby! I cried tears of joy!!! I was so excited that I was finally going to meet my little boy! I get into my room and the Dr. came in and asked what I wanted for pain management I told her I wanted an epidural but that I wanted to wait a little while. She said she was going to break my water to speed things along, and the contractions were going to get more intense after that. I wasn't in pain at this point and the contractions were still manageable but I decided I should get the epidural before she broke my water, since I could sit still at this point. About an hour later she came in and checked me I was at a 6 and the contractions were still manageable the anesthesiologist walked in shortly after and went over everything with me and gave me the epidural. The epidural worked great I could still move my legs but I couldn't feel the contractions at all, the nurses said it was the perfect epidural. 2 hours later the Dr. came inand said she was going to start me on pitocin because my contractions weren't getting closer together. She started the pitocin and my epidural was still working great! Carson didn't like the pitocin too much though, his heart rate kept dropping and wasn't coming back up quickly with each contraction, so they kept flipping me from side to side and put me on oxygen. This is when I started to notice that the epidural wasn't working on my left side anymore and my right side was now completely numb and I couldn't move my right leg.... Dr. checked me I was an 8. They continued to flip me back in forth to try and get the epidural to re-distribute evenly... it never did. I kept telling the nurse it wasn't working and she kept telling me to hit the pump button to get more out.... I felt everything on my left side! I could feel him move down with each contraction! about an hour later the nurse finally decided to call the anesthesiologist back to fix my epidural.... I looked at DH after she left and said he's not gonna make it! I have to push now!!!!! We hit the call button and the nurse comes in to check me I don't think she got anything into my vagina she said oh yeah it's time to have a baby, let me go get the Dr. they couldn't find the Dr. so they were grabbing a bunch of nurses to help deliver. She kept telling me not to push and I tried not to, but my body was doing it anyway. The Dr. walked in just in time and 4 contractions later Carson Lee was born on 5/12 at 2:08 am weighing 7lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long. His apgar scores were 9/9. I didn't have to have an episiotomy,I just had some labial tearing. It took me awhile to get feeling back into my right side so I could walk, but I felt great afterwards. I am so in love with my little boy! introducing Carson Lee!
