Alright BTDT moms, I need an opinion. Thanks to my meddling MIL telling my dh that I will hurt the baby if I don't have an infant seat, my dh has decided that we HAVE to have an infant seat (I still think they are a waste of money since it will never be out of the car because I always take baby out to wear, but whatever) so I need to find an infant seat. I absolutely REFUSE to use a Graco infant seat of any kind (I had a Graco infant seat with both my other kids and both seats the straps broke after about 3-4 weeks of use and Graco refused to replace them saying that I had caused the straps to break by putting a baby too big for the seat in it) and that seems to be all the stores carry here, so I am having to buy offline where I can't see or touch them. What seat would you recommend?

Can you give your dh any research showing that convertible car seats are just as safe? That's crazy about the Graco seats that you've had. I've only had Graco with my girls and the seats have been wonderful for us. Good luck with this. I hate it when people interfere in things that aren't there business.

I'm just going to use the infant seat that my DD used. It's a Graco though and still in great condition. ???? So I guess I have no recommendations for you. LOL Did you use infant seats for your other kids? Because if you didn't, it seems silly that your DH would want you to get one now.

My advice I guess would be to try babies R us. Sorry I'm not much help.

I have showed him all the info, but all I get is "well my mom said......" She is very annoying in more ways than one!

I did use them with both my other kids, which is the other reason I find them pointless. They are such a hassle to take baby out to wear and put back in. Not to mention that the straps broke between 3-4 weeks and I went ahead and switched to the convertible seat.

We have used convertible car seats with all of them. I don't really care for the stationary(?) ones. They just seem so big and the baby so small, and I bring it in the house for somewhere to set them in. I don't understand how the baby is going to get hurt without one though....and this is my fifth. I think it is purely your choice. I believe my last one was a Graco, and it attached to the stroller, which I loved. The first one was a Cosco=Total junk. Good luck shopping

I love my Chicco Keyfit 30 that I bought for this my daughter. She is still in it. (The baby must be jealous because I just got a strong kick ) Sorry back to the carseat. It goes down to 4 pounds and up 30. I needed it to be extra safe for my preemie and it is a lot less bulky than a Graco.

I love my Chicco Keyfit!!! For us an infant seat was ideal with DD (born in October) cause it gets really cold here in the fall and winter, so it was easier to transport in and out of the car. But, we also have a convertible that she's in now (since about 11 months) and it's great too.

That's crazy that the straps just broke on your seat. I've never heard of that before, but it's scary.

I've been researching infant seats to figure out which kind I'm going to get. The Graco SnugRide is the top rated but the Chicco Keyfit comes in a pretty close second. The third is the Maxi-Cosi Mico. Never heard of it before nor have I seen it in person. lol. Sounds like the Keyfit is the way to go though, if you're against Gracos!

Chicco Keyfit all the way baby! And if your baby is early and small it fits starting at 4 pounds. I love our Chicco

I have the same one, except not the 30 as they don't sell it in Canada. So mine goes to 22lbs, but it is a fantastic seat. Love love love it and will be using it for this baby too.

According to Consumer Reports the Chicco Keyfit is number one in every aspect of ratings. The next is Maxi-Cosi Mico followed by First Years Via. We've used the Chicco Keyfit with both of my kids and we have loved it. Our families liked it so much my parents and IL's both bought bases for their cars and my SIL got rid of her Graco for a Keyfit too.

We haven't decided yet. Having a special needs 4 year old in a wheelchair doesn't leave much room for pushing a travel system if I'm by myself. If DH is with me, then an infant seat would work fine for us.

Sorry you have to get something you don't want because of someone else getting in your business. I personally love the infant seats but everyone has a preference and I can see why you don't like them. I would look at consumer reports and see what the ratings are and then start shopping. Good luck and happy shopping.
