I have a Ranger EZ-Flex Infant Car Seat from when Landen was a baby. I bought it back in 2008 and it was the last one I have ever seen of that version. I just checked on their website and it says that it is a retired model. So does that mean it has met it's expiration date or would it still be safe to use? Andy thinks that it's still safe to use, but I have my reservations about it. Not to mention the fact that it is so heavy and I can't even get the handle to move cause it is so hard to drop and bring back up. What do you ladies think?
I think retired means discontinued...They just don't make it anymore. The last infant carseat I bought was for Lucy. She didn't need to be in it long, so we were able to use it for Oliver. He didn't need it long either and so this baby will use it as well. I have issues with getting the handle up and down too...I don't get that! But it still works well. Oh, and I bought the carseat in 2008. I think if it has obvious issues, like the handle is falling off or something is ripped or broken, then I wouldn't use it, but otherwise, I think you'd be fine.

It should have an expiration date printed on it somewhere. My Britax had a manufacture date and a note not to use 5 years after manufacture. I think they worry about the integrity of the restraints after that timeframe.
Unless it was recalled which is totally different from discontinued or retired OR over 5 years old then I would say it is fine... unless you want something new and lighter... We love our Chicco Key Fit and will use it this time too!
I absolutely hate the carseat we have. It is not a bit cushy, I don't like the colors of it, and it is just too heavy for me to even carry. Andy doesn't want to buy a new one but I'm gonna try and convince him to let me buy a new one.
