For those of us delivering at a hospital, how long will you have to stay (assuming everyone has normal labor/birth/etc)?
My hospital requires a 2 night stay but with my son (different hospital) I only had to stay 1 night. I like the 1 night option better....I will be soooooooo ready to get home to my other 2, start a new routine and get back into normal pre-pregnancy life!
With both of my other kiddos we stayed for 48 hours...but it wasn't due to me but the kiddos. I was free to go at 24 hours...but for my son he needed to stay until we got the bili lights approved from our insurance and home health(he come home under the lights). For JoJo they wanted her to stay 48 hours due to me being GBS positive...totally sucked...since she was eating and pooping great.
With the twins...I really don't know...first off I am being induced so that is a whole new ball game for me...I am going in sunday night to start the induction so we will have to see how long that whole process takes. Then if there are any issues with the twins we will have to stay till that is resoloved. My hopsital will let me stay there and room in with the boys if they need to stay. Plus I could always end up getting a c-section so that means I have to stay longer.
I am hoping and praying we have to stay 48 hours then are free to go home!!!!!!
With Jonathan I opted to stay the second night since he was my first and he was born at 8:24pm. Also I wanted to go home the second day to make our 3rd anniversary really special by taking him home!
With Sarah I really wanted to go home after one night because that was Father's Day, but because only half of my second dose of antibiotics got in when she was delivered, she had to stay an extra night to make sure there was no infection, and there was no way I was going to be discharged without her!
This time around, I think I will go home as soon as I can (safely of course).
The hospital im going to says a full 24 hours...i will be excited to leave, but scared to be left alone with a little human! I never took care of one before. Hopefully all those books ive read will actually be helpful. lol
both my girls were c-sections and with both of them i left the next morning. I plan on staying only 24hrs this time too. I talked to my ob and she knows how i feel too. I hate hospitals more than anything and i only stay as long as they can legally keep me (24hrs ) unless of course infection or anything else then thats different.
In a perfect delivery with both me and baby making it through with no issues at all, we will only stay for 24 hours after baby is born. Any complications will push that back.
With DS#1 i had to stay for a few days because I had to have surgery following his delivery. I didn't want to go home because I didn't know how I was going to make it without the nurses.
If I have a "normal" delivery this time and everything goes ok *fingers crossed* then I will be discharged after 24 hours (hospital policy).

With DS I was induced at midnight then stayed an additional 2 nights. They probably would have let me go a day sooner but I had a rough delivery and they wanted to make sure I was doing ok first.
This time with a c-section I am assuming it will be about 3 nights or so. I think that is the norm. I will be itching to get home but I also want to make sure I am mobile and feel good with moving around.
I left a day early after Nat was born (she was born JUST after midnight, so even though I was there for 2 nights, It was still one day early LOL) because I felt fine. Depending on how I feel, I will probably try to leave a day early again.

Thank you so much *Kiliki* for another amazing siggy!
i actually txted my OB this morning to ask about this, due to us packing our bags.
she told me i will be there 2 days/nights if its a normal delivery and if its a C section its 3. I just made sure i packed long enough for both lol. With DS I was there an additional 5 days on top of the 2 days. I wasnt about to leave my baby boy in a hospital alone
The policy at our hospital is 2 nights for vaginal and 3 nights for csection. I left after 1 night with DS. With DD we were there a few extra nights because she needed the lights and I was having problems with my BP being way too high (pre-e with her that didn't resolve with delivery like it normally does). I'll see how things go this time and decide from there, but my MD offered to let me go after 1 night last time and was more than ready!

Our hospital has you stay at least 24 hours, but it usually ends up being two nights unless you deliver in the morning (if you deliver in the late afternoon/evening/night, they usually have you stay the extra night)..
how logn do I have to stay? no idea. I'm assuming until i'm stable and then I could leave if I wanted. how long will I stay? the state law will require ins to cover 48 hours after delivery , NOT including day of delivery. so that is what I will stay.

Well I don't know how long the hospital requires others to stay but my Ob has been saying at least 3 days for me, that is if everything goes smooth, so I'm not sure. Will have to wait and see. I thought normally hospitals require only 24/48 hours but oh well.
I have no idea how long the minimum stay is at my hospital where Im delivering. I was there FOREVERRRR when I had my daughter there. I went in on a Sunday nite to have Cervidil placed for my induction, started the pitocen on Monday morning, had her on Monday afternoon with no complications except that she was kinda small (5 lbs 4 oz) and didnt leave till Thursday early afternoon due to her bilirubin levels rising and they wanted to keep an eye on her. I had the choice to go home, or stay there and "hotel". I chose to "hotel", but it sucked because while they still fed me, they didnt come and check on me anymore and I kept running out of things like those sexy mesh underwear they give you and I had to keep asking for stuff and felt like I was being annoying!
