I have 2 snakes hanging around my yard. I am deathly afraid of those things. I don't care if they are garter snakes or whatever. They are not welcome in my yard!! I have put down snake repellent, and it's not keeping them away.

The other night I was headed out my front door and that **** snake was peeking up at me like he was trying to come in my house. Needless to say I slammed the door shut on Mike, and went running through the house screaming. By the time I got the neighbor over here to rid of it, it had already slithered away.

Then, I just went out the back door to take pictures for you ladies to see what has kept me busy the last 2 weeks. I was throwing stuff into the trash barrel and missed, and that is when the snake slithered away. He is currently coiled up under my grill.

I have so had enough of snakes. What else can I do to rid of them? Anyone?

OMG...I hate snakes too!!! Do you have any dogs? We back up to a small bayou so in the hot months we have been noticing more and more snakes coming up into the yard, not sure why, but my dogs pretty much kill them.

Yeah, we have a dog, but I'm not sure that he would eat them or scare them off. It is worth a try though. He tends to run from frogs though, so I'm not too hopeful that he can rid of the snakes.

I'm not sure...I know there are snakes here, but we don't really have any issues with them. I actually haven't seen any since we got our chickens.

Oh yuck!! I feel for you Amanda!! I am petrified of them and if I see one outside I swear I won't come out for days!! We had a pretty good sized one that was hanging out at our house when we lived in WA and it was right under my front porch and one time hanging out by my car door. Luckily DH killed it for me. But he left it dead in the driveway so I could see it was dead.....I just about beat him for it!!! I have no idea how else to get rid of them. Hopefully you can find a solution!

Ick. I actually don't mind snakes *that* much, I don't like them but I'm not terrified of them. SO, however, freezes if he seems them, he HATES them.

Oh, Amanda!! I'm right there with you, girl!! I loathe snakes! Even the thought of them gets me anxious!! We get them in our yard from time to time but thankfully don't have to deal with them too often. My neighbor two houses down swears by mothballs! Seriously! He scatters them all over his backyard and he says it keeps the snakes out! I don't know if there's much truth or science to it, but it might be worth a try if your desperate!

ooh..yuck..not sure what you can do though maybe call a pest control place and ask for advice..i am TERRIFIED of snakes (you wouldnt suspect that given ive lived in Texas and Arizona) but my body just stops when i see one..i dont know what to do... but thats all i can think of! i would be terrified to let my dogs out when one is around..for fear of them getting bit by one..(an old dog of ours got bit and died) so i sure hope something will be done for ya!

Momma was able to get a little bit of a hold on him as he was trying to slither away. She used our spade to chop some of his tail off. Hopefully he figures out to stay away since someone here is gonna try and kill him if he comes back. Stupid snake! He needs to find somewhere else to go. Like maybe the woods behind my house.

I had my first encounter a few months ago (you dont get them in New Zealand, I now live in Australia)...and it freaked me out. Its very rare to see them in cities/build up areas but that didnt detear the one in my backyard! By the time the snake handlers got to my house it was long gone.
My kids werent allowed out side for a couple of weeks because the type of snake was poisonous :S

If I know it's not poisonous, I'd catch it for ya. :] I grew up with snakes, so they don't bother me.

SO, on the other hand, would piss his pants and run miles away from one regardless... he hates all reptiles apparently. Funny though.. I kinda love them..

I love snakes!! we have 5 If I lived nearby I would come by and handle it for you .. good luck though, if there is one there is probably more .. try to eliminate whatever food source it is your providing depending on the type of of snake and what it eats.... if the food source they like is around so are they

So what do pesky garter snakes eat Jamie? Cause that's the kind of snakes I have. The only other creature that is in my backyard besides my dog is the random toad that hops around.
