At what point do I decide my milk isnt really going to come in?

Today I went one feeding with just pumping instead of feeding and all I got was about 3/4 of an ounce from both boobs. We are doing things to try and increase my milk supply (breast massaging, bf is making those cookies today, I pump after every feeding - 8ish times a day).

But my mom never had milk come in and I know my sister had issues with her first baby (and ended up not being able to breast feed).

8 days pp and I am still making very little milk. I pump after feedings and sometimes I just pump and just feeds off formula or already expressed milk.

Has anyone else stopped breastfeeding and am I alone in feeling so frustrated and upset? It really feels like this isnt working and that hurts.

Sorry you are so frustrated! Hugs, mama. Believe it or not, 3/4 of an ounce off of both breasts at 1 week pp is not bad at all. That sounds like what I was getting last week, and my milk was in. Now I'm 2 1/2 weeks pp and can get almost 3oz. I can definitely tell my milk is much more this week than last. So keep your chin up! Just nurse that baby over and over again, and if you give formula make sure you pump during that time. You can't nurse too often! Good luck! Oh, and just because your mom and sister had issues doesn't mean you will too. Being able to nurse has nothing to do with heredity, but it's a common thought.

IMO i would strictly breastfeed for now...I wouldnt pump, b/c then it confuses your body on how much it is supposed to be making for your baby. I think you should definitely check out this article from the breastfeeding forum...

I agree that 3/4 of an ounce isn't bad with a pump. Baby is most likely able to get more from you than the pump (they are more efficient) so baby is probably getting at least an ounce per feeding. If baby feeds every 2-3 hours that is about 12 ounces a day. I agree that I wouldn't pump. I am 2 weeks PP tomorrow and I am getting more milk everyday to keep up with his demand. Sometimes I have to feed him every hour for a few hours and then he will just crash for a few hours. Sometimes I swear he is sucking on a dry boob but I just think it is helping my body to keep up with his demand. If baby isn't crying due to hunger all the time then baby is probably happy with what you are offering Good luck!

Yep, exactly what the other girls said! As long as your baby isn't crying from hunger, he's getting enough! Just nurse him as much as possible and you'll see an increase as he starts needing more!

She is crying from hunger which is the problem and why we have been supplementing. I figured out today she looks like she is latching perfectly but on the inside of her mouth she is grabbing onto my nipple and not latching onto more.

I am not sure how to fix this.
