I took Will to his 1 month well baby check up today. Everything looked good, he grew 1 inch & gained 3 pounds. But his head circumference had the dr concerned. It grew from 13 inches to 15 inches. She seemed a little concerned & measured it again. She said she would put a note in his file to check it again next time at his 2 month appt. Now I'm worried. What could this mean?

I'm not sure what it means, but Jenna was the same way. I remember them measuring her melon 3 times at one appointment, but they wouldn't tell me what the deal was, just that they'd watch it at future appointments. Anyway, I'm not sure about your son, but Jenna just has a huge head, and it's growth slowed eventually and was nothing to worry about. I swear doctors say things just to freak us out sometimes.

I was going to say, maybe his head just wanted to grow. Drs have no tact.

The doctor is probably worried about hydrocephalus. They thought my dd had it when she was a newborn/infant. If it's still a concern the doctor will have an ultrasound on the head ordered. Sounds scary, but it's not really.

It was probably just measured incorrectly at birth or his first visit. My DD had tons of hair, so sometimes the measurements weren't spot on depending on the nurse. Don't worry. If it were something urgent, you would have had a referral to check on things NOW.

I second this. I would try not to worry until after your next measurement. At birth the nurses measured Lew at 22 inches long. Two weeks later he was 20.5 inches at the doctor's office. Hmm....

Also...some babies just have big heads! DS#1 has been in the 90+ percentile for head size since about a month of age. He just has a big head.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Same thing happened to my DD at every check up for the first year and a half. Dr obsessed over the size of her head. It frustrated me cause my DD met all the milestones perfectly and wasn't exhibiting signs of hydrocephalus. Her dad has a larger noggin than most people so I chalk it up to that.
