Not even a simple mama or dada?

I'm surprised, but not worried or anything, that Alexis has yet to say any word. We thought maybe she said mama.... but it turned out to be just babbling. She flat out says nothing. She can't be the only one can she?

Katelyn says 5 words she knows the meaning to. I still worry.
AJ has a speech delay and its pretty severe. I spoke to his pediatrician at 1 year 18 months and 2 years and each time he blew me off as AJ was a boy boys take longer blah blah blah. So he did not get any kind of intervention until he was 2 and a half.
Our current ped said right now we should only worry if she wasn't saying mama and dad at by her first birthday, so that might be kind of a timeline for you?
If she isn't I would recommend early intervention. I still wonder every single day if AJ might be talking better if we had gotten him therapy when he was a year or 18 months
At his current rate of progression he is likely to be still in speech therapy when he starts first grade

Avery is not speaking. Sometimes I think she knows the meaning of mama, but I am not sure.

In fact, she only JUST started babbling about 2 weeks ago. I was concerned, but then I talked to my dr and posted on the AP board and was told that it was totally normal and that all babies develop at different rates. I felt better after that.

See that's why I'm not overly concerned. I don know babies develop at different rates. I think at her 1 year appointment I will most certainly bring it up though. I know she knows words, because I can tell her something and she does it. She also shakes her head no. She does communicate. Part of me thinks that she doesn't speak because her sister speaks for her, and I am really quick to assess and respond to her needs. She really has no reason to speak KWIM? Maybe I could stop responding as quickly and ask her to say something... I dunno. I think we'll just wait another month or more and see what happens.

Carter can say a few words but I still worry and watch him super closely my toddler does not speak much at all since she has hearing loss and it took the Drs until she was 2.5 to listen to me that I thought something was not right.

Will babbles constantly but has not said any words (that I can tell). He seems to understand "no" and "bath" but I cannot get him to say them back to me! So, nope, no words here yet either. Just tons of super cute sounds.

Does she make noise? if so you probably hit the nail on the head. and her sister is talking for her. and if she can get what she wants without the need to speak then odds are she won't. (this is how C was, but we worried due to she didn't make noises at all)

Yeah, she does make noise. Lot's. Lot's on "Mmmmm" sounds and "Buh buh buh ba" type sounds. She grunts and points and communicated what she wants you to look at or do. This is why I'm not overly worried. I'm hoping she'll burst out with all kinds of words when she starts talking. I suspect at the very latest when Kairi goes to school she will start.

Tristan makes the same noises and every once in a while I think I hear him say something but he doesn't repeat it.

Silas (very seldomly) says "Auntie Trish," However, he when it comes to simple things like Mama, he goes "BA BA" I wouldn't worry, seriously.

The little girl I babysat from 4mth-18mth barely spoke until she was over a year. Then within months she had this crazy vocabulary, and spoke so well! I always said she was just soaking it in.

DS says nothing that means anything. He makes all kinds of sounds but no words. I'm not worried at all, they are still young and have lots of time to start talking. If he wasn't making any sounds at all then I might be worried, but he babbles all the time and is always making noises even in his sleep.

I figure he gets his point accross by pointing, actions and making noises, plus he has two big sisters who love to talk for him.

Keelan is not really speaking in that he doesn't know the meaning of the sounds he makes. He makes the mama and dada sound and lots of others, but I don't think he attributes them to anything. Not worried at all.

Savannah only says "DaDa" & knows what it means. But other than that, it's mostly babbling & a word here & there.

I think she's just soaking it all in.

I wouldn't worry yet. DD didn't say that much very early and she picked up a huge vocabulary around 2.

Dom has started saying some words but the only ones he is using regularly are "dada" "ball" and "I got" sometimes he will say "I got it" I have also heard "mama" "dog" and "bye" in context. But he won't repeat them again yet anyways.

Nope, no words here! She babbles very occasionally, mostly "dada dada" sounds. Or squeals and coughs (that's how she laughs). She understands more language though, I've taught her "hands up!" so she won't get her fingers pinched in the high chair tray again. Very effective.
