Is your baby's carseat rear facing still??
My husband and I are debating which way it should face so I wanted to see what you all were doing.

Rear facing. In our first date it is required by law for children to remain rear facing until age 2.
Katelyn will probably remain rear facing much longer than that.

Rear
ETA. One thing to think about beyond the safety debate. If they are rear facing they recline some. And easier more comfy for them to sleep.

I was telling my husband rear until 2. He said baby is big enough to face front. Everything I read online and even at our DMV online said rear till 2.

Both are rear. DS is almost 3. Rear is much much safer.

I have them bookmarked. I've become a bit of an advocate since someone showed me those links and several others. That little boys story still brings tears to my eyes.

it's changed since our other kids were little. and he's probably thinking about that. You can ask your Pedi. he/she will say age 2. and maybe hearing from him/her will convince hubby

Rear, especially since she is so small. I'll be lucky if she hits 15 pounds by her birthday.

She's rear facing. I'd like to keep her that way longer, but we're having a really hard time getting her any air at all to the back seat. Every time she is in her car seat, she is drenched in sweat, gets incredibly red-faced hot, and is miserable. She figured out that she can turn her neck to see Me and DH in the front seat so she rides like that. I can't figure out how to get her to feel the air back there.
(Before I get a bunch of negative comments and such, this IS Texas and it is incredibly hot. So yes, I start the car beforehand. Yes, I keep two blankets over her buckles to keep them from getting hot {they still get hot} but she still gets incredibly hot and drenched in sweat every single car ride.)

We point the middle vents up almost towards the ceiling, and the side vents towards the back/almost towards the back window. If that makes sense. We use to have this issue all the time! You can also use an ice pack on it fpr a few minutes before she gets in.

Rear until he outgrows the seat to safely rear face.

We do have sun slings on the windows. It only slightly helps the situation.
The fact that it will get cooler doesn't help her now. When I have a screaming, burning up, drenched in sweat, red-faced miserable baby. All I was asking for was a little advice on how other people may deal with the situation. I have tried everything from turning ALL of the vents toward the back (including the tiny one that is actually in the back seat) and it still does not cool her off. I don't know if we just chose a big, bulky car seat or what. I have thought about moving her seat to the passenger side instead of the middle, but the middle seat is safer.

Being on one side won't help. We moved Katelyn next to the door for the same reason and it didn't work.
I travel with her in her diaper only, put ice packs in her seat 20 minutes before we leave (its cold when she gets in and she cries sometimes), and when its really hot I mist her with water too. The moisture evaporating off the skin is cooling.
You can purchase cooling blankets too.

Wow, I never said you were an idiot. I actually was asking a few of my November ladies who are car seat techs to see if they know any tricks.

Does she not get sunburned? Brynlee's arms, face, and legs get so red in the car. I can't imagine what her chest would look like. Plus, with as hot as the buckles and straps get, her clothes protect her from them touching her skin. I do like the ice pack idea and will try that. But I don't know how that would help when say we are out grocery shopping and we don't start the car before getting in. I do use sun shades on the side windows and I always put up my windshield visor anytime we are not in the car. I'll have to google the cooling blankets. I just feel so bad for her. She only really started HATING the car seat when it got super hot outside and I don't know what else to try to make it pleasant for her!

Sorry. I should not have said that and I apologize. I know that we all read things incorrectly on the internet and I thought you were saying it like the reason I gave was dumb and that Texas is not the only hot state out there. I shouldn't have smarted off, sorry about that.

Its okay, I was just saying that we also live in a hot state and what makes it easier is the thinking it wont be hot forever.
When you turn on the car do you put down the windows? What kind of car is it?
