We took Katelyn back to urgent care again. Two in a row But she had been running a 103+ fever since Friday night and the on call doc recommended taking her in.

Right ear infected really bad, sinuses still infected, throat looked nasty too. My poor little is on a azithromycin AGAIN as well as antibiotic ear drops.
Her ped has said 2 more ear infections or one more requiring a double antibiotic would mean a referral for tubes. I guess I'll be calling tomorrow to see what she says.

The nursing is what's really blowing my mind
I had pretty much given up the last 3 days and haven't hand expressed or done anything. Katelyn hasn't nursed at all unless I got her out of bed asleep and dream nursed her so I finally decided after 3 weeks of battles, refusals, and not being "asked" to nurse that she was just weaned.
The NP (two lactivists in a row!) advised me to keep trying, my poor baby is a mess and will very likely WANT to nurse again.
Sure enough, tonight after ibu, tylenol, antibiotic meds AND drops, she got sleepy and tried to pry my clothes off.
Ok, we'll give it a shot.
But she wanted the right side.
The side she hasn't nursed on in OVER a month and I had just let it go, assumed I was dried up on that side.
I let her try anyway figuring she'd get ticked off and give up for the night.
After a minute or two she unlatched and grinned at me.
MILK drooled out of her mouth.
OVER a MONTH and I'm still producing on that side?!

How long does it take to dry up completely?
I'm wondering if this is why I have to wait 6 full months after she weans to get my breast reduction.
CRAZY.

when you want to dry completely, get a decongestant, like Tylenol Severe Sinus Headache (my favorite, personally). It dries your milk ducts like it does your sinuses.

After Cora I was still squeezing milk when I got pregnant with Erin 5 months later (but dried up soon after becoming pregnant). When I weaned Erin, I'd found out about the decongestant thing and in less than a month I was completely dry.

I'm sorry that Katelyn is so sick! Poor baby! Hope she gets better soon.

Awww poor little baby! I am surprised that she doesn't try to nurse for comfort when she is sick. Hope the meds help and she is all better soon.

That is crazy that there was still milk in there!

Rachel both NPs told me the sucking probably hurts. She actually hasnt even been sucking her fingers so I should have known. It's depressing trying and trying and trying to get her to nurse and have her fuss and cry.
Hopefully we'll get back to normal soon.

Poor baby! I hippie the needs get her feeling better soon!

Re: the milk. I didn't nurse my second child, but I never completely died up after him. 14 years after he was born and I was still able to produce little bits of milk from time to time. It finally went away after I weaned Daniel and took a lot of decongestant.

Kara - I so hope she feels better soon. Poor baby.

After M weaned, I was still able to express milk when I got pregnant with K 5 months later. I was told that I can't get a mammogram until 6 months after I've fully weaned. I didn't know about the decongestant, and may have to try it this time - when I get to the fully weaned part. Maybe my boobs will shrink too.

It was a WIC lactation consultant that told me that, telling me to NOT take them since they would dry up my milk. Of course, I told her that it would have been great to know when I was painfully full of milk and had no baby to feed.

But it's been a useful bit of information. Since I slammed my strep/sinus issues with decongestants while weaning Allison, my milk was gone in a week.
