Michael Joseph was born on Friday, January 14th at 2:46pm... here is his birth story

After having no signs of labor during my 40 week checkup (I was 39w6d at the time), my doctor raised the concern that I've had consistent high blood pressure, and suggested that I start induction on Wednesday January 12th.

As nervous as I was about this, I decided it was the best decision for my husband, myself, and of course our future son Michael. I was nervous because I did not want a c-section, the baby had NOT dropped, and I wasn't dialted at all.

I went in Wednesday night to have cervidial administered, and induction would start the next day.

On my OB tour it was explained to me, that the beds in labor and delivery are NOT meant for sleeping, they are meant for labor. To stay up if I'm not on the monitors, and move around as much as possible.

OH THEY WERE NOT JOKING!!! Those beds were HORRIBLE! I could not sleep, had to stay in bed BECAUSE I was on the monitor. Plus, I'm a side sleeper, which did NOT work well for the monitor. I could only go on an external monitor because I was not dialated.

Day one of pitocin: Nothing in the morning. Started getting some small contractions toward the end of the day, but they stopped the piticin, and checked to see if I was dialted. I was about 1/2 centimeter (they said a finger tip) Said they were trying again, starting over (cervidial, then pitocin the next day)

The other doctor came in and examined me the next morning. He told me there was no progress from the cervidial, and asked what I wanted to do. I didn't expect that question, I said "well, we had already talked about the plan..." He asked who we is, and I told him that Dr. Carver and I spoke about what we were to do. He comically said "well, I don't see Dr. Carver here..." So - I asked him what he recommended at this point

He just gave me options. Said I could go home, and hope to deliver in the next couple days on my own, i told him no way on that one. Then, he said that we can start the pitocin if I'd like to. I told him yes.. that is what I planned, and that I also have myself set mentally that if it didn't work, that we would be doing the c-section that night.

He said ok - started the pitocin, and said he'd be back later... around 2pm, he was back. He then checked me. I was having small contractions all morning but nothing really. He told me my options again at this point, which included going home (again, no way!), waiting to see if the pitocin works, having the baby right then (via c-section) or having a c-section later.

I looked at my husband, and we agreed it was time to meet Michael!

All of a sudden, all around me were people getting busy. Cleaning the room, getting all our stuff together, propping me up, putting leggings on me, , taking my vitals, putting the hair cap on... it was crazy!! They got me out of there within 5 minutes I swear! Anesthia was there, nurses all over, and before I knew it they were wheeling me down the hall.

I got into the surgical room, and they continued to work quickly. I was numbed up before I knew it, my husband was there, Dr. Chen was there, and of course all the nurses, and the doctor to assist my doctor. I felt all kinds of tugging, but no pain. It didn't bother me at all. I thought it would! C section was the last thing I wanted! Tug tug tug, pull pull, and all of a sudden they tell my husband to stand up and look - so he got to see Michael be taken out of my womb, and I heard crying! I of course started bawling my eyes out, and couldn't wait to see him. DH and the "crew" brought him over to be weighed and measured, and my husband was able to cut the cord at this point. (trim the cord, it was alread cut at this point....)... DH said that he went over there, and he saw this fountain spray up - and he ducked out of the way - he sure was a boy!!! LOL!

I hadn't even met him, and I was in love. Just hearing his sweet cries. All of a sudden, they brought him over to me, and I was able to give him some kisses and snuggles and meet my beautiful son.

After they closed me up - they brought me over to a little recovery area, where they stripped me and baby down, and let him lay on my bare chest. All of a sudden, before I knew it, he was nursing! I was amazed, it was the best bonding experience I could have asked for. Everything about him was amazing. I couldn't have designed a better experience.

Motherhood is everything i ever dreamed of. Such amazing love. I'm so blessed!
