I had been having contractions for the better part of my pregnancy. With this being our fifth baby, this fact did not surprise me. But, I have to admit, it was getting very old!
On January 2nd I was hospialized for preterm labor. Thankfully they were able to stop it and after only a night in the hospital, I was sent home.
Two weeks pass and I go for my 36 week appt.(My first appt. since my hospital stay due to snow)As I'm leaving for the dr. office I notice that I'm contracting pretty regularly. So, I tell my dr. and he checks me to find that I'm a good 3 cm. dialated.
Now, we live an hour from the hospital, so my dr. and I discuss what I need to do in order to prevent my dh from delivering my baby in our minivan. We decide that I'll hang out around town for a few hours just to see what happens. Before I go home he wants me to swing by the hospital just to be checked. If nothing happens, I was to see him in a week and be induced the following Monday.
So,I call my dh to give him the heads up(he's an hour away) and me, my mom, and my four kiddos go have lunch. Throughout lunch my mom timed my contractions. I, on the other hand, enjoyed my delicious Mexican food and fried ice cream!
When I decided to finally go by the hospital, they say I've progressed to a 4 so I'm staying!
I call dh and he heads down to the hospital. The dr. comes in and talks about all the things that could be wrong with the baby being a 36 weeker. But he is optomistic.
My dh arrives around 5:30 and I decide to go ahead with the epidural so I can enjoy what was happening. It only takes on one side. Great! If baby girl decides to just come out on my left side!!!
At 8:00 my dr. checks me and I'm a 7. Within the hour I know things have changed and I'm needing to push. But... my dr. has LEFT THE HOSPITAL!!! What???
After much panting and praying, he shows up, and after two pushes my gorgeous baby girl arrives!!! She is beautiful and pink and healthy and certainly doesn't look like a preemie to me!
I immediately get to feed her and it was wonderful!
During one of her night feedings that night, something happened that, although people had told me it would, I didn't believe them... I looked into her sweet face and just knew we should name her Emma! All those months spent worrying over a name for her and we never even discussed Emma, but at that moment I knew that was the name! It was a precious little moment for the two of us!
So Lauren Emily "Emma" was born 1/14/2011 @ 9:22 weighing 7lbs. 5 oz. and 19 1/4 in. long. She has a head full of dark hair that looks like we tipped the ends with blond highlites! She's simply amazing!
